Janelle Monae rocked one of her most sophisticated looks seen on the red carpet. This time she hit the home run with ease and lots of lashes for dramatic effect both as a nominee and as a performer!
In a gauzy dress evoking angel wings and a headpiece crafted from a white square and safety pins, plus an asymmetrical pair of hardware earrings framing her face, Janelle Monáe needed a serious statement eye to balance the look. And boy did she get it, thanks to the Lashify at-home lash extension system.
“The eye had to be interesting,” says makeup artist Jessica Smalls. “I envisioned an ethereal look,” for the twice-nominated artist, for Album of the Year (Dirty Computer) and Best Music Video (Pynk).
Smalls used all Lashify “B” Gossamers (clusters)—the most dramatic in the collection. She applied lengthy, 16mm Gossamers at the center of each eye, 14mm Gossamers on each side, and then 12mm Gossamers at the outer corners. The effect is a rounded shape that draws attention to the center of the eye, where Smalls had placed a hit of gold shadow on the lid.
And while the “B” Gossamer’s are the most dense and intense of Lashify’s Gossamers, “they look seamless and feel weightless,” says Smalls. “After I applied them, Janelle said, ‘that’s it?’ She couldn’t believe how lightweight they were.”
In summing up Monáe’s look tonight, Smalls describes it “as if an extraterrestrial landed on earth and attended the Grammy’s.” We couldn’t agree more. Those lashes are out of this world.
