Jay Nash Launches Monday Night Streaming Concerts + More! Don’t Miss It!

Today’s piece is all about music and one (or two) very special musicians.  Jay Nash is a friend who I have featured many times on both this blog and in an array of videos and podcast interviews.  His music is so lovely and meaningful that you can’t avoid going down the road with him in the songs he sings.  He has expanded his music by collaborating with Josh Day as The Contenders.

I got a blast in my email last night about Jay Nash doing a live concert online and I jumped into seeing that one last night. It was awesome! I  felt like I was at the Cafe (Hotel Cafe) and seeing Jay play!   His music only gets better and his lyrics gain more meaning over time. I have at least 5 of his CDs.  Crazy great and there are times when I slide one of his CDs into my car’s player that the music takes me back X number of years to certain times and spaces.

The email that Jay sent out shares that he’s going to be doing weekly concerts online for everyone to see. Such a opportunity to see a great Americana-esque singer is not to be missed.  I am sharing the email because he also offering some other opportunities to see and hear his music LIVE online- and it would be suitable for kids and family to hear.

Please check out his email and don’t miss his next musical opportunity on Monday nights. He handles being live online so well that it’s like you are in the same room.

From Jay Nash:

Hi Friends.

I hope that you are holding up ok in this very strange time.  As much as we feel very sheltered from the brunt of what is going on in the rest of the world here in Vermont, the practical impact of canceled activities, school, work, and gigs is just as real and present here as it is anywhere.

In this time of social distancing, I am finding more comfort and solace in music and connection than I have at perhaps any other time in my life. I played a couple of impromptu live streaming shows on Facebook and Instagram last

week and the experience of connecting with so many of you lifted me right up!  The positive feedback that I received from all of you about how my music was helping you to get through was truly the best part of my week.

JOIN US on Mondays

So – I will be doing a lot more of it.  I’ve got lots of music and lots of time, so I want to share it with you.  Live shows are canceled for the foreseeable future, but I think that I have the technology figured out so that I can stream any performance from my studio to your home with high-quality audio and video.
All shows will stream for FREE and I will also make HD audio recordings of the shows available after the fact for FREE.  Why?  Because, I want to make sure that anyone who might find relief from any sense of anxiety, boredom or despair can get it…regardless of their financial situation.

So please, feel encouraged to SHARE this free music.

Monday nights at 8:30 pm will be a full-length concert featuring an ever-changing and request heavy setlist!

Tuesday and Thursdays at 1 pm EDT will be a shorter, kid-friendly concert and class that you will hopefully want to incorporate into your at homeschooling plan.
These shows will include kid-safe language and discussion of this time, important figures in modern folk, blues, country, and rock music, introduction to various string instruments and a little bit of music theory (sing-alongs and introductions to rhythm and harmony).

We’ll start with Woody Guthrie and work our way through introductions to the music of Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, The Band, Robert Johnson, The Blues, The Grateful Dead and more!

Stevie’s Note:
These Tuesday/Thursday sessions are like having a history of music session + also digging into the background of the musician, their music and their musical progression.  This is an amazing opportunity to introduce your children (and yourself) to some amazing musicians!

Stevie’s Note:

I already sent him something for 3/23’s concert because it was wonderful.

FREE RECORD OF THE WEEK:

SOME KIND OF COMFORT (2005) – EXPANDED EDITION!

Included in the download package are full-resolution WAV files. I have also included a live, solo acoustic performance of the entire record along with some other goodies in the bundle.

My good buddy Matty D and I produced and mixed this thing together and NO computers were used in the process. 100% Analog. (Until we put it onto a CD)
It features numerous cameos from the Los Angeles/Hotel Cafe/Room 5 scene, circa 2004…which was what I consider to be the high watermark of an incredibly vibrant musical movement and scene.

Enjoy it and feel free to share it.

Stevie’s Note: Don’t pass up this Some Kind of Comfort opportunity. The album is gorgeous and has such meaningful tunes and lyrics.

The Contenders: (Josh Day and Jay Nash)

‘You Don’t Care or You Don’t Have the Time‘ will be released unto the world on Friday, April 3, 2020.

Now is the time that we call upon you to be so kind and supportive as to pre-save (on Spotify)  our new opus.  We have done a bit of market research and the study has revealed that our saddest songs seem to resonate best with our audience.  Well, when the people speak, we listen!  This song is arguably our saddest jam to date.  (hopefully, in a good way that makes you feel warm and cozy inside).  Just in case you’re wondering, yes…there are more new songs where this one came from and yes…a new album is in the works!

Stevie’s Note:

I am a big fan of Jay Nash and have followed his music and career for a long time. I have done podcasts with him too which cover his most recent music and his European and American tours.  I have seen both Jay Nash and The Contenders (Josh Day and Jay Nash)  live at the Hotel Cafe, Room 5,  and on several of these online gigs.
Jay is one of these very special musicians and  I love how he puts things together lyrically and musically. I have several copies of his CDs and I listen to them often.

Don’t miss this opportunity for you to hear some great music and for any children, family and/or friends to hear the music of Jay Nash as well as his work as part of The Contenders!
