I often feature new spirits and cocktails on LA-Story.com. I think cocktails are fun and a good cocktail can make a hot summer weekend more tolerable. If you have a socially distanced friend or two over, it turns it into a party that is “more spacious” than usual- but it feels more like a celebration. Recently I featured Cutwater Spirits latest canned cocktail: Long Island Iced Tea, and I was really interested in trying this product. I figured I would get a can to test drive, but Cutwater was generous and sent me a 4-pack!
DISCLOSURE:
I was sent a four-pack to try the Long Island Iced Tea. This doesn’t affect the outcome of the review, but it actually allows me to write a review on this specific cocktail. A review would be impossible without some test material. I appreciate that they sent me a four pack.
In case you didn’t see the details on this new addition to the RTD (ready to drink) cocktail line, here it is below.
Acclaimed San Diego distillery, Cutwater Spirits has released a brand-new, ready-to-enjoy canned cocktail: a Long Island Iced Tea, the 13.2% ABV throwback everyone needs right now. Cutwater’s elevated interpretation of the notorious dive bar classic features four of the brand’s award-winning spirits: Vodka, Rum, Gin, and Tequila, along with citrus notes and a splash of cola. Long Island Iced Tea is also the booziest offering in the portfolio, meeting
This is one very serious – yet lighthearted – cocktail! The first sip gives you a great blend of flavors to roll around your tongue because you know that it’s a complex drink.
“Our Long Island Iced Tea doesn’t play games with a low ABV or use beer as a base alcohol, it is true to the original recipe with a Cutwater twist – featuring our real spirits and a 13.2% ABV.” shares Yuseff Cherney, Master Distiller and Co-Founder of Cutwater Spirits. “We’re super happy with the finished product and think our fans will love being able to set this legendary cocktail free.”
I just got the 4-pack yesterday and I made an effort to try it today. My husband and I split a can (since I had some writing and editing to do today!)
The photo shows the Cutwater Long Island Iced Tea can, plus 2 cocktails (from one can)
Mine is the one next to the single can. My husband’s was the one in the on the counter.
The four-pack is a great way to share some cocktails and they chill easily. The photo above shows just how much is in a Cutwater RTD. I split the can displayed and it was a great cocktail. It’s a “real deal” Long Island Iced Tea. Your first sip picks up the flavors of all the spirits: vodka, gin, rum and tequila! Yes, if you haven’t eaten, it might kick your butt- but in a pleasant way. My husband was impressed with the range of the flavors and how the amount of the spirits in the cocktail wasn’t skimpy at all. I loved the flavor and wish I had put together a garnish of an orange slice and some maraschino cherries. (Don’t ask me why about the cherries, they just sound right).
If I had presented this cocktail properly I would have used a wooden skewer or a good sized swizzle stick to thread an orange or lemon slice plus a couple of cherries. The citrus garnishes would pick up the citrus notes already in the cocktail and the cherries would pick up the sweetness which is more lingering than one realizes.
This is a great cocktail. It would be easy share for a BBQ or take on an excursion to a park or the beach. The cocktail is really tasty. On a hot day, this cocktail would be an easy sip. The flavor profile makes you feel relaxed and on vacation.
About Cutwater Spirits:
Cutwater Spirits is a San Diego-based distillery known for its award-winning lineup of over 18 canned cocktail classics made from its portfolio of premium bottled spirits including gin, whiskey, bourbon, vodka, rum, and tequila.
