Super Bowl 55’s game is really going to be challenging– Tom Brady is part of Tampa Bay’s Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs have pretty good odds that they can beat the Buccaneers! It’s really going to be an interesting event to watch. And given that the game is in Tampa… well the weather down there is quite different than what most of the US is currently experiencing.
Watching this game is an event by itself and while you might not have a party as you did in 2020, this year you might have a ZOOM party and just have your immediate family in attendance.
Perfectly suited for the colder weather that is happening on the east coast and in the midwest, here are 2 cocktails from Ron Abuelo Rum that are hot drinks. These hot drinks also feature the Ron Abuelo 7 Años Rum!!
Ron Abuelo is produced by Varela Hermanos, a third-generation family-owned company that dates back to 1908, when Don José Varela established the first sugar mill in the town of Pesé in the recently formed Republic of Panama. ABUELO SPICED HOT BUTTERED RUM

Notes from Hedi on the Spiced Hot Buttered Rum: “
The Spiced Hot Buttered Rum is a smooth and sweet drink with a thicker texture and the addition of winter spices makes this especially enjoyable during the colder months.
The flavors blend wonderfully with the sharp and balanced taste of Ron Abuelo 7 Años.”
Ingredients
1 1/2 oz. Ron Abuelo 7 Años rum
*Strained hot/warm spiced brown butter mix
Directions:
Add the Ron Abuelo 7 Años rum to a heatproof glass or mug.
Fill the glass about ¾ of the way with the warm, spiced brown-butter mix ** and gently stir.
Garnish with whipped cream and grated nutmeg.
**Spiced Brown Butter Mix (serves 6 people)
Ingredients:
150 grs x Brown sugar
200 grs x Butter
3 Cinnamon sticks
6 Whole cloves
6 Allspice berries
1 Vanilla bean/pod (split open vertically)
1 teaspoon of Kosher salt
8 cups of water
Directions:
Assemble all ingredients and cook on low for 2-3 hours to marry all the flavors together.
Strain.
ABUELO SPICED PINEAPPLE TODDY

“This drink is a twist on a classic Toddy with tropical flavors. The addition of the pineapple represents the warm climate of Panama and the Caribbean where Ron Abuelo is produced – it is a nod to Abuelo’s heritage. It’s an uplifting and warming cocktail that will pick you up with its light texture, fruity notes and spice. The flavors highlight some of the earthier notes found in the Ron Abuelo 7 Años.”
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz. Ron Abuelo 7 Años rum
1/2 oz. Honey
1/3 oz. Lemon juice
1 oz. Hot water
1 oz. Pineapple juice, warmed
1 Cinnamon stick
1 Star anise
1 Orange peel
Directions.
Add all ingredients to a heat-proof glass or mug,
Stir gently, ensuring the honey is dissolved.
Garnish with grated nutmeg.
These two cocktails sound absolutely incredible. I have had hot buttered rum before, but never spiced, and never with that spiced brown butter mix! Sounds absolutely fabulous. Plus it’s so rich and warm that you would feel great having it for Super Bowl Sunday or for any time.
The Abuelo Spiced Pineapple Toddy is a cocktail I would love to have! This is one of those great recipes where you always have the ingredients for this recipe on hand!
