American Dance Movement Celebrates National Dance Day with Nigel Lythgoe, Derek Hough, Hayley Erbert

and “So You Think You Can Dance” Stars at Events from Coast to Coast

American Dance Movement and its co-founders Nigel Lythgoe (“So You Think You Can Dance”) and Adam Shankman (“Hairspray, “Step Up,” “What Men Want”) were joined by
Emmy Award winner Derek Hough and other special guests to celebrate the 13th annual National Dance Day with thousands of dance enthusiasts of all ages and abilities across the country
on Saturday, Sept. 17.

There were four official co-hosted celebrations on the West Coast:  each featuring a free community event and celebrity choreographers.

–Lythgoe was in attendance at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, where he was joined by a high-energy group of dancers that included American Dance Movement grantees, Free 2 Be Me and t
The National Dance Day routine was led by “So You Think You Can Dance” season 17 finalists Anna Miller and Keaton Kermode.

–DJ Richie Rich got the party started at the second event at Westfield Century City, where guests learned the National Dance Day routine from choreography duo Cost n’ Mayor, who choreographed
this year’s routine with Hough and “Dancing with the Stars” standout Hayley Erbert.

–At Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California, attendees enjoyed a variety of live performances from dance artists and organizations; and enjoyed interactive and inclusive dance workshops
in a wide variety of dance styles. “So You Think You Can Dance” finalists Miller and Kermode wrapped up the event by teaching the Orange County crowd the National Dance Day routine.

American Dance Movement was thrilled to add a free community event in Las Vegas at the Luxor Hotel and Casino this yearHough and Erbert were on hand to teach the official routine that they
choreographed with Cost ‘n Mayor. The attendees included dancers from the cast of FANTASY who joined to celebrate the day.

–On the East Coast, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. hosted an exciting event with “So You Think You Can Dance” Season 16 winner and “America’s Favorite Dancer” Bailey Muñoz, who led participants in the official National Dance Day routine on the mainstage. The Kennedy Center’s National Dance Day festivities also included interactive dance routines and classes, outdoor performances, live music
and more.

–At Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida, attendees enjoyed interactive dance workshops and watched live performances by dance artists throughout the day.
Tiffany Maher, dancer and “So You Think You Can Dance” season nine finalist, took the stage to teach the official National Dance Day routine to conclude the festivities.

The National Dance Day presence was also felt online, with many participants showcasing their version of the National Dance Day routine by posting videos of themselves or their groups doing the
routine on social media.
Since 2010, ADM has created an instructional dance video of the National Dance Day routine that invites participants to learn original choreography and put their own spin on it.
The routine brings together dancers and dance enthusiasts around the globe to celebrate National Dance Day as a form of valuable exercise and of artistic expression.

ADM has been encouraging communities to get moving through dance for more than a decade by funding dance education in underserved communities, as well as educating the public on the many benefits of dance, such as
improved cardiovascular health, self-confidence, self-expression, social skills and more.
