Presented by Metro
5-Miles of Open Streets Connecting Koreatown and Hollywood
Sunday, August 20, 2023; 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
WHAT: CicLAvia – Koreatown meets Hollywood presented by Metro
On Sunday, August 20; between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., CicLAvia – Koreatown meets Hollywood, presented by Metro, welcomes everyone of all ages and abilities to its 47th car-free open streets event connecting Hollywood and Koreatown along Vine St, Melrose Ave, Western Ave, and Wilshire Blvd, for participants to jog, ride, bike, skate, run, walk, skateboard, spectate, play, and enjoy the 5-mile route. Always free, CicLAvia participants just show up anywhere along the route at any time to enjoy the open streets and to take the time to explore two of L.A.’s iconic communities.
With four Hubs filled with plenty of activities and programs along the route, CicLAvia – Koreatown meets Hollywood will be both fun and engaging for all to enjoy. Hubs are walking zones (bike dismounts) and meeting points along the route with the Hollywood Hub located on Vine between Yucca and Hollywood;
Melrose Hub located on Melrose Ave near Windsor;
Western Hub located on Western Ave south of 2nd street; and Koreatown Hub located on Wilshire Blvd west of Vermont Ave.
Hubs offer family-friendly activities, restrooms, free water refilling stations, free basic bike repair, bike parking, and first aid. Free pedicab rides, sponsored by AARP, are available at each information booth.
Use the CicLAvia Interactive Digital Map to plan which businesses, local gems, activities along the route, and Hubs to check out during the event.
“Every CicLAvia route has something unique and special about it,” says CicLAvia Executive Director Romel Pascual. “The meeting of these two iconic neighborhoods via car-free streets showcases the incredible diversity that is the fabric of Los Angeles.”
Located south of Hollywood, Koreatown (aka “K-town”) is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Encompassing roughly three-square miles, the area was once the epicenter of Golden Age Hollywood, home to the Ambassador Hotel and Cocoanut Grove nightclub, and the Brown Derby. Today, Korean and Latino populations contribute to Koreatown’s rich cultural diversity. K-town is also known for having one of the largest concentrations of nightclubs and 24-hour businesses and restaurants in the country. Little Bangladesh with its culinary and cultural scene is located just east of the Western Hub.
World famous as the show business capital of the world, Hollywood offers many different attractions such as the
Hollywood Walk of Fame, El Capitan Theater, and the
Hollywood Forever Cemetery. It is home to many famous
television and movie studios, record companies and shopping districts.
Inspired by Bogotá’s weekly ciclovía, CicLAvia has been temporarily closing streets to car traffic and opening them as public parks in Los Angeles since 2010. Now, with more than 275 miles of open streets, these beloved, always free to attend events are a celebration of L.A.’s diverse and vibrant communities.
CicLAvia car-free streets connect all of us to the neighborhoods where we live, work, shop, learn, and play. Active participants at CicLAvia use people-powered mobility to navigate public streets
in a safe and joyful way. Along the way there is shopping at local businesses, access to cultural and architectural gems, using open streets as spaces to connect with each other, and making a positive impact on the environment by creating a more sustainable and climate resilient city and region. Over the past 13 years CicLAvia has helped communities re-imagine a greener and cleaner Los Angeles, while also promoting equitable transportation options, healthier lifestyles, and closer connections to community.
