It’s a holiday weekend and there is no better time for a party with friends and/or family.
Whether or not it’s at your home or elsewhere, there are ways to create a more festive atmosphere — affordably– by having a special cocktail for the event. After all, it’s going to be enjoyed – and remembered — by most of the people there. At my own parties, I set up my bar and start creating based on my ingredients but I do start a few days ahead with some planning.
Shake It Up blog by Signature David is a good place to start. He caught my attention with this great cocktail called Blackberry Cake. Originally featured for Mother’s Day, this is ideal since it’s not too sweet but it’s very unusual and blackberries are in season right now. So here’s his recipe from his blog– broken down for easier mixing
Muddle 4 juicy ripe blackberries in a cocktail shaker,
Fill shaker half way with ice.
Add 1 1/2 oz vodka (p.i.n.k., of course!),
1 1/2 oz white creme de cacao,
1 oz Frangelico
Shake vigorously.
Strain into a well chilled martini glass and garnish with a blackberry on the rim of the glass .
If you want to go a bit upscale on this one, , leave a little bit of room at the top of the glass for a champagne floater!
I lost track of where I saw it and was posting on twitter and googling for this recipe till I ran into him again on Facebook. Join his group on Facebook to get some really interesting cocktails.
Here’s another cocktail from Signature David that will make your Memorial Weekend memorable!
Called “RED SKY, in honor of David’s friend Skyler’s birthday!
Here’s how you make it…
Combine:
1 1/2 oz p.i.n.k. vodka,
1/2 oz gin,
1/2 oz silver tequila,
1 1/2 oz cranberry juice,
1 oz sour mix,
a splash of Cointreau and
a splash of fresh lime juice in a shake full of ice.
Shake well and pour into a rocks glass. Garnish with a slice of lemon
