It’s interesting when Jill Kirsh of JillKirshColor.com and I are doing these reviews. We are on the phone discussing the dresses, hair, make-up and jewelry and you might think we are crazy because I have sent her all these photos and said “let’s do the ‘slam'”.
The conversation is getting insane around here. It’s now down to another switcheroo on the dresses. What’s up with people (or stylists who should be ashamed of themselves for not saying something) wearing the “not quite right ” shade of dress.
Celebrity Style Slam: Christina Applegate vs Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Talking strictly color here, I would keep the dress styles but swap the color because the midnight blue isn’t doing any favors for Christina and the color that Julia’s wearing would make Christina’s blue eye pop a bit more and really soften her skintone.

I have to agree with Jill. While I think that the dress is a touch overdone, if anyone can pull it off, it’s Applegate. However the color is too dark for her lighter eyes and pale skin.
On the style side of things, the dress is heavy with beading, ruffles and lots more embellishment than was necessary when it was 102 degrees on the red carpet. One needs to take into account the time of year. While in January during Golden Globes, they can put out heat lamps, there is no AC for the outdoors.
I think that given all the beading that Christina is missing simple bracelets and interesting earrings. The handbag does nothing for her outfit. Overall she looks good but would be a gazillion times better in the teal-y type of blue that Julia Louis-Dreyfus is wearing.

Jill Kirsh:
The midnight blue-black from Christina’s dress on Julia would kick up everything a few notches. This teal-type color has a bit of yellow in it and she needs a more icy color that’s clear and not muddy like the teal. The midnight color would be so gorgeous on Dreyfuss and the other color so much better on Applegate.

It’s time for the girls to go into the restroom and get an assistant and few pins and swap dresses. I swear. Where are the stylists and who’s managing the store? Dreyfus: LOVE the style. It’s so perfectly her. The color isn’t.
With this kind of strapless dress, you need something decorative piece like a statement necklace or a less serious necklace with the bling-y earrings. She has no bracelets, zero broach– nothing else and a bag that is rather boring. Black is way too safe– and with that dress and it’s a red carpet event, this is not the time to play it safe. It’s just not enough pizazz.
