It’s almost Memorial weekend and the kick-off to summer. It’s time for special treats and here in LA, in the penultimate beachtown known as Santa Monica (near 12th and Wilshire) is Beachy Cream.
Well worth making a short drive to snag cones, ice cream sandwiches or eat something a bit more substantial like hot dogs or grilled cheese sandwiches, this amazing business is certified organic and uses local and sustainable produce and ingredients. It doesn’t get any better than this (other than the wait when it gets busy might be daunting but it’s worth your time!)
Beachy Cream believes that ice cream should be a fun experience (just look at the retro-inspired Beachy Cream Girls) and the company’s philosophy is that customers shouldn’t have to worry about what’s in their frozen treats. Because of this, this California Green Business Certified company uses only 100% organic ingredients to create its smooth and creamy signature ice cream, all of which are made in small batches, with locally sourced and sustainable ingredients.
Instead of using preservative-filled syrups to flavor its ice creams, Beachy Cream buys ingredients from local farmers markets to make its very own flavorings from scratch. For example, Groundwork Coffee Company’s Bitches Brew and homemade toffee are combined to make the flavorful Coffee Toffee ice cream, and similar processes are used to make all of Beachy Cream’s frozen products. The team is constantly experimenting with flavors to create delightfully unique ice cream flavors to be sandwiched between organic cookies that are made with a special formula to maintain their texture, even when frozen.
The Beachy Cream Story: (Who better to tell it then the owners themselves!)
We began selling our delicious, organic ice cream sandwiches in 2009, at local farmers markets, parties and high-profile events from a wildly successful ice cream cart. Since then, our company has rapidly expanded, opening a full-service ice cream shop in Santa Monica, California in 2012 and a “store within a store” at Vintage Grocers in Malibu, in 2014.
Today, 55 stores (and counting), including Whole Foods and Gelson’s, carry Beachy Cream ice cream sandwiches and pints. Our very own 13,000 square-foot factory is opening in March 2015 in Long Beach, California, which will enable us to accommodate increasing demand and to distribute our lip-smacking products nationally.
Inspired by ice-cream-fueled summers on Cape Cod, hip coastal surfers, signature family recipes, and made with the concentrated flavors of 100% organic ingredients, our founder Ann Ryan, and her daughter Beth Stockwell, have created what many are touting as “the perfect ice cream sandwich”. We make our ice cream in small batches, with locally sourced, sustainable, organic ingredients.
Beachy Cream sweetens up local parties and events with our mobile ice cream cart and famous Beachy Cream Girls (if you don’t know them already, just look for the girls in retro-inspired attire, carrying delightful, frozen treats from “cigarette” trays).
Beachy Cream girls with Katy PerryThe Beachy Cream Girls have served the crème de la crème at many high-profile events and parties, including the Elton John Aids Benefit Oscar Party, Maria Shriver’s Best Buddies Fundraiser, the American Idol Los Angeles Auditions, serving cast and crew (including Ryan Seacrest), and a variety of others. Our brand and our Santa Monica store are reminiscent of the classic ice cream parlors of the past. You know, like a movie remake with better casting.
The classic ice cream treat with a delicious twist continues to impress customers and celebrities alike. Shaun White, professional snowboarder and two-time Olympic gold medalist, flipped out for the Bitchin’ Chocolate Chocolate, Academy Award-winning Actress Jodie Foster loved the Key Lime Cowabunga and customers consistently ask for second and third servings.
This ice cream store and growing ice cream empire sounds deliciously decadent! It’s much more than just ice cream though! With fabulous hot dogs and killer grilled cheese sandwiches, you can have a great meal and dessert to top it all off in their fabulous shop!
So. California peeps, get in your car and head over to Santa Monica and give your tastebuds an amazing treat– yummy sandwiches and ice cream options to die for! Where’s the place to go this weekend? Beachy Cream!! I am hoping to make it up there to see the store and try out not only the ice cream but the grilled cheese sammies! I have never been there (but must have driven by at least a gazillion times) but not known it was a “MUST TRY” ice cream store – and more!

This retro theme is fun, and those treats look very tasty. The mobile party serving feature must be very popular.
I really love that vintage styling. It’s popular here, though I think of it as ‘American’. And the icecream looks delish!
