The Los Angeles Public Library will host the inaugural DTLA Maker Faire from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 at Central Library. The downtown Los Angeles event, which is free and open to the public, will feature:
presentations,
hands-on activities,
performances by a variety of local makers, artists and organizations in the fields of science, engineering, art, performance and craft.
Some of the local makers and creators that are scheduled to attend the DTLA Maker Faire include Bubblemania, Crash Space, Curiosity Machine, and LA Makerspace, while the Library will be hosting demonstrations of its new, state-of-the-art 3D printer.
“We are thrilled to be hosting the inaugural DTLA Maker Faire here at Central Library as it is a natural extension of our Full STEAM Ahead initiative, which offers hands-on workshops on science, technology, engineering, art and math,” said City Librarian John F. Szabo.
“I look forward to seeing what our local maker community has it store for us and believe that this will be an extension of the creativity and ingenuity that we get to see every day here at Central Library.”
Maker Faire is a platform for curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they create. From engineers and artists to scientists and crafters, DTLA Maker Faire will showcase innovation, invention and resourcefulness in a fun, stimulating environment that is suitable for inquisitive people of all ages.
Tickets for the DTLA Maker Faire are free and available to people of all ages here.
Please note that while advance tickets are not required in order to attend DTLA Maker Faire, registering for tickets allows the Library to gauge prospective attendance and help plan exhibits and interactive displays as well as ensuring that there will be an
appropriate number of printed materials for patrons. (In other words, if you don’t RSVP for this event, you might find yourself crowded out at peak times as well as unable to participate or have something to “take with you”)
For more information about the DTLA Maker Faire, please visit the event’s official website at www.dtla.makerfaire.com or by visiting the Events section of LAPL’s Facebook page.
