National Dessert Day was Oct. 14, and when I went to check on this post, it had gotten stuck in “draft”, though I had a time and date for it to run. My original thought when I wrote this piece is that to make National Dessert Day a single-day event was really not realistic. Think about it. Wouldn’t you want National Dessert Day to last a week? I am sure you have more than 1 favorite dessert. Almost everyone I mentioned National Dessert Day to thought it should be a weekend event at the very least.. and most thought a month-long celebration would give them the opportunity to have a couple of great desserts every week.
You don’t have to have super-luxe desserts. Some of the best items are very simple. Two of my favorites are cookies and (ahem) ice cream. Here are two brands that you might not know about- but should explore because they are exceptionally delicious1
Loacker!
-
Loacker Hazelnut Quadratini – four layers of the smoothest hazelnut cream filling held by five light, crispy wafers.
-
Loacker Espresso Quadratini – four layers of the smoothest espresso cream filling held by five light, crispy wafers.
-
Loacker Cappuccino Quadratini – four layers of the smoothest cappuccino cream filling held by five light, crispy wafers.
There are more than just Quadratinis but other shapes and flavors. Give a belated National Dessert Day celebration a nod with Loacker cookies!
And if you want to dress up National Dessert Day a bit more, you can use the wafers and pair them up with the frozen treats from Coolhaus!
Coolhaus!
Coolhaus is the leading women-founded and -led ice cream brand creating premium cookie sandwiches, pints, and bars Each treat is thoughtfully crafted with the highest quality ingredients and creamiest texture. Coolhaus is best known for their uniquely innovative flavors and their modern twists on the classics!
Co-founders Natasha Case and Freya Estreller started baking cookies, making ice cream, and combining them into “cool houses” in 2008. With mutual backgrounds in the design and real estate fields, they began naming their ice cream sandwiches after architects and architectural movements that inspired them – and eventually decided to take their newfound passion (dubbed “Farchitecture,” or Food + Architecture) to their hometown streets in Los Angeles. So after a few days on Craigslist (and some time convincing their families they weren’t crazy), they found and bought a beat-up old postal van, trekked out to the world-famous Coachella Valley Music Festival in April 2009 to make their debut, and, well…the rest is history.
I know that Coolhaus was around LA going back several years and I knew them before they were at Coachella. I saw them at events, arriving in little postal vans that were stocked with a selection of Coolhaus Ice Cream Sammies. YUMMY is the best way to describe them. The sammies are unique because the cookies vary from flavor to flavor so you don’t have oatmeal cookies for every ice cream sandwich. I have met both founders and they are imaginative entrepreneurs who don’t mind stepping up to take a few risks. Here in So. California, the brand has a substantial fan base and I know when I find their pints, I try to make sure to buy two because my family will scarf it down.
For National Dessert Day, the Coolhaus ladies had a serious question to ask:
Are dairy-free people getting the desserts they deserve on this momentous, fateful day?
All we know is that we created a dairy-free line so good that we are putting it front and center on National Dessert Day!For us, it’s less about having days to celebrate indulgent treats, and more about giving you what you want when you want to indulge. We’re good at making ice cream, but we also knew that newly-turned vegans and vegetarians were missing desserts that were as creamy and rich in texture. We put one of the best dairy free frozen desserts out there. Our unique blend of pea protein, brown rice, and cocoa butter will give you that velvety, rich texture you’ve been craving. “Creamy” isn’t a word just for dairy-ful people anymore.
And if you do celebrate it with either the wafer cookies from Loacker or Coolhaus frozen treats (or both!!!!), please ping me on social media or come back and share your experience on this post!
