Get to Zinc at Shades in Manhattan Beach for “Dine LA Week” or Just for the Fab Food!!
Zinc at shades in Manhattan Beach isn’t exactly a secret ! All the locals love it for the staycation-ability and the fabulous food. But for those who aren’t in the area, you might miss this lovely restaurant which the amazing menu that I got a chance to have a “taste test” a couple months ago. For LA Restaurant Week, it’s almost a MUST DO to visit zinc and check out their food.
Out to Lunch (or Dinner)!! Where Do You Go? Here’s a HAUTE Place to Hit in So. Bay/Long Beach. The Federal Bar “Smokes” as the New HAUTE Place to Go!
Drive up Pine Avenue from Ocean Blvd and look at all the vintaage buildings, particularly after you cross First Street. Pine is rife with great restaurants and it’s spreading across to the East Village. What you might not notice is this demure building set back from the street a bit– quite large actually. It was once a bank that close and then morphed into a high-end eatery called Madison. Madison soon died due to very pricey (but yummy) food but the space was quite large. It was huge, gorgeously art deo/vintage in feel and yet cold.
Fast forward several years and voila- a new spot within the former bank called thoughtfully THE FEDERAL BAR — a sister store to the one in NoHo. (North Hollywood for visitors). This is one fine building. The huge space that dwarfed Madison and it’s diners has been morphed into several spaces without losing the best part of the visual — the ceilings, the space and what they did to carve up the space created group areas, lounges and they are even taking over the vault to turn it into something special.

Cliff’s Edge might be new to you– or maybe not. Either way, it doesn’t matter because you can bring some of the “juice” from Cliff’s Edge to your home courtesy of these lovely cocktails. I won’t say you will get it exactly the same as Cliff’s Edge Mixologist Richard Swan will – but it’s worth either the drive or the trial run to get these things right! Given that there are hand-crafted ingredients and no proportions given, you might want to make the drive to Silverlake for this one at some point this week. Make sure you eat too. GREAT food!
