Getting to the Foot of the Matter!
hah! fooled you huh! Bet you thought I forgot this blog and this podcast! Sorry that I am so late today. it’s been insanity today so bear with me and know that I really REALLY want you to listen to the podcast. It’s different. It’s about fitness. One of the key aspects of beauty is good health. One can’t be truly beautiful, if you aren’t in good health. Being in good health involves, eating and sleeping properly but also includes being fit. Note that I didn’t say thin, I said FIT! Your body functions well.
There are times when even the fittest body doesn’t function well due to stress or strain or tension. what to do? Skip the glass of wine or the medication. Try turning to body therapy that aims to realign your body. Yoga, Pilates, Gyrotonics, and other therapies can all do that, but they don’t do it with some immediate affect. A new body therapy, BODY ROLLING, can help you achieve some immediate results as well as help realign and retrain your body over the long haul. Created by fitness guru Yamuna Zake, Body Rolling can do a great deal to help relieve stress, tension, muscle spasms, and get your body in a more correctly aligned and neutral state without a lot of stress or strain.
One of the key aspects of the Body Rolling program is the Foot Waker and Foot Saver exercises. These are programs aimed at your feet to stimulate the circulation and release the tension in the feet while allowing the nerves to be stimulated in a positve manner and helping the muscles in the foot to let go. Because all the nerves in the body end in your feet (and because the foot has the most bones of any body part), your feet are an oft-neglected aspect of your body. Think about reflexology and how great a foot rub feels and how much you relax when you have a foot massage. Think of the Foot Saver/Waker program as a vertical foot massage that you give yourself thanks to the force of gravity.
Foot Wakers are nubby half sphere balls that stimulate all the relexology points and increase circulation and get your feet–and body– prepared for the eventual use of the Foot Savers, a smaller, harder half sphere ball that you use in the vertical position. While Foot Wakers can be used sitting in a chair, the Foot Savers are best done vertically. The program takes less than 20 minutes but it’s the most mind-boggling 20 minutes!
With the DVD as instructional media, Yamuna guides you and several others in her video class through the use of the Foot Savers. Using the heel as a starting point, you start slowly inching your way toward your toes with just your outer rim of your foot on the balls. Feels odd but good. Once you reach your toes, you start again at the heel with it centered on the ball and walk down the ball an inch or so at a time down the center of the foot. Bliss!! It’s heavenly. Once you reach your toes, you start again at the heel with the inner aspect of the foot on the ball and walk yourself down the ball. Each time you walk down the ball, bit by bit, you breathe slowing in and out and allow the muscles to relax and "let go". You will hear and feel your back relax. You will feel your neck become soft and relaxed. You will feel everything in your body relax. You come off the balls straighter, more erect and more relaxed. Your body is more in natural sync.
Continued use of the Foot Waker and Saver program will re-align your body and rehabilitate any problems you might have. It will strengthen your arches and the muscles of your feet which carry you through your day. While very hard to describe, it’s something that really should be experienced to fully understand it.
To experience this program, you can take a class, buy a book, dvd or video and all the tools you need to experience the BODY ROLLING and Foot Waker and Foot Saver programs. I know this is a different sort of podcast/blog from me but I hope you will give this a try. I have several of the Yamuna dvds and I do body rolling daily and I have had positive results. One of the great pieces of the Body Rolling therapy is the Foot Waker/Savers and I have never been able to approximate a foot massage until now, courtesy of the Foot Savers.
If you do try any of this, please let me know what you think. I would be very interested to know
Hope you have a great week. See you at the beauty counter!
