Halloween Horrors: Finding a Costume
Halloween: oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh spooks, goblins and ghosts. Heck no one believes that unless it’s the little kids coming to ring the doorbell, expecting you to be scared at the store-bought costumes. They get the treats, but do you get the trick of dressing up for Halloween?
Whether you are answering the door or knocking on a door of friends or family, you can dress up–though cautiously depending on the age group who you expect at the door. The easiest way to go is with a great make-up to do spooky or more blood-curdling effects that can be done by visiting a local beauty supply or costume house to pick up a few supplies to simulate blood, boils or even serious gore. You can do more elaborate make-up that take a bit more time–bruises are fun to do but do require time to mix and blend makeup colors. Or you can go totally outrageous and do beauty to the Nth degree with a more catwoman or glamour girl look (tight sweater and big bra not included but might be a great bit). Mehron’s Paradise Makeup AQ is a great choice of easy to use/apply/remove pro makeup. Aloe and chamomile combine to make Paradise Makeup AQ® safe and gentle to the skin. The makeup also includes glycerin, avocado oil and cocoa butter to provide rich, vibrant, color with complete or "saturated"coverage. It washes off easily with soap and water; brushes and sponges clean easily too so that you don’t have to worry about special cleansers. The Paradise 8 pan palette is a semi-soft, water-activated, moist cake makeup that is packed in an 8 pan palette and comes in your choice of color configurations: basic, pastel, tropical (hot sizzling colors) and the newest– metallic for the more outrageous looks.
Buying a wig or borrowing one if you have a nice friend is a thought and then just do a more period look that revolves around the wig. Suggested looks include long black hair could be a beatnik with an all black costume –or go goth.. but that’s hardly a costume any longer. Get a blonde wig and do either a dumb blonde, a Monroe-esque character or even a cheer leader type look.
If you need –or want– to go in costume, particularly if you are going to a party, you might want to check out this collection of costumes that are better than the things you find at Target, not as hard to wear ( or picked over by those who thought ahead of the game) as rented costumes–the collection is from Forplay Catalog (http://www.forplaycatalog.com ) It’s more about being "for play" as in play-acting and they are primarily known for their sexy swimwear collection.
However they have some interesting costumes from skimpy to more acceptable costumes that you could answer your door or be seen in and not feel that the outfit is too revealing. What makes this line of clothing/costumes different is the both fabric and fabrication. The clothing s meant to last –hence the costumes cost a touch more– but they are of better quality and won’t split, rip or shred when you wear them–and yes that does happen with less expensive or even rental costumes. These higher quality garments are fun and can be used for other costume type parties.
This is the Sexy Catholic schoolgirl– aka Britney outfit.
A more grown-up version of Dorothy, (I don’t think we are in Kansas anymore, Toto)
A more unique French Maid outfit !
Some Like It Hot a la Marilyn Monroe outfit that would be perfect if you tossed in that blonde wig.
There are tons of other costumes from risque to more covered up in all kinds of themes. If you visit the website, you can locate stores near you or get some ideas of what you want to wear –and or try out — as a costume. HURRY, Halloween is tomorrow!
And there are enough parties tomorrow that I know that here in LA that a ton of these costumes are going to be worn!!
That’s the LA Story!
