Indonesia is a popular destination for tourists but I bet you never thought about it as a beauty destination. Despite the tsunami that decimated Bali and the  both logistical and economic difficulties in traveling these days (given the price of oil, airfares have gone through the roof  for international destinations), it would seem that Indonesia would be an unlikely spot but  quite the contrary, INDONESIA is known  as having deep cultural roots in beauty and cosmetic treatments. With all the interest in more holistic and botanically based products  from  other  cultures, it’s not surprising that are  more cosmetic and skincare lines from Asia– Initially it was Japan,  then China and now Indonesia is becoming a focal point for skincare.

Juara is a new skincare line that presents a unique spin–blending high tech with ancient Indonesian skincare treatments for a global fusion  that rivals that of other Asian  cultures.  Founded in 2004 by four friends (Metta Murdaya, Yoshko Roth, Tami Chuang, and Jillwen Sung. My apologies for mispronouncing your names on the podcast) Juara is an 11 product skincare line that is the inspired creation  of these four women. This hybrid of East and West, features the key ingredients of Indonesian culture tempered with western technology to create an effective, luxurious line of skincare that will improve problem skin and help maintain skin that is healthy.

The word Juara means champion or winner and it certainly describes both the line and the women who have  created the line because they have succeeded in creating a line that makes women look and feel beautiful. Previously only available on the east coast, Juara is now available in LA.– no longer will you have to hop a jet or wait for the precious cargo to be delivered. Now it’s as simple as hopping in the car and driving to one of 4 shopping destinations in LA:
Planet Blue, Malibu and Venice; Studio at Fred Segal, Santa Monica; Truth & Beauty, Los Angeles. Yes, it’s still a schlep, but it’s worth it once you see the active ingredients and ust how effective this line is.

Face:

Rice Facial Cleanser  is a gentle cleanser that contains rice starch (rich in amino acids) and sulfate
free cleansers that will  remove make-up and dirt without strippping the skin ($25)

Sweet Black Tea and Rice Facial Moisturizer is very hydrating and will give skin renewed glow. The fermented black tea is chock full of B vitamins and organic acids that will reduce lines and skin imperfections. Rice bran oil contains Vitamin E and essential fatty acids that nourish and help skin to renewed elasticity. Avocado butter has sterols that  strengthens the skin’s protective barrier. ($40)

Sweet Black Tea Lip Treatment is heaven on chapped lips. fermented sweet black tea, vitamin E and candlenut oil reduce lines and wrinkles; hydrate and soften skin and heal cahpped skin. ($20)

Sweet Black  Tea Eye Creme  features fermented sweet black tea  which provides the anti-oxidant action and tightening while the rice bran oil provides the vitamin E and essential fatty acids that your skin NEEDS particularly around the eyes. ($30)

There are four different masques: there is at least one masque  suitable for your  skin.

Tumeric Antioxidant Facial Mask features a potent anti-oxidant and detoxification ingredient in tumeric. It’s known for it’s antibacterial activity too. ($38)

For those with oily or combo skin types, you will love the Lime Puree and Cucumber Clarifying Mask The lime puree breaks down and clears out oil while providing an exfoliation action.
Cucumber water that cools and balances the skin. ($35)

Avocado and Banana Moisture Mask is a super rich and creamy masque that provides a healthy dose of  hydration to dry skin while also providing nourishing anti-oxidant  ingredients thanks to the minerals and sterols in the banana and avocado ingredients. ($35)

The Milk and Red Sandalwood Facial Mask  is an unusual presentation in that it’s a packet of powder that you mix with water to create a paste and apply –which makes it more in keeping with Indonesian  traditions. This masque can be used by all skintypes. the Milk acts as an AHA-lactic acid– to exfoliate while milk proteins soften and nourish the skin. The red sandalwood is used in Indonesia for its anti-inflammatory  activity and will sooth  irritated skin which makes it perfect for even the most sensitive skintypes.  Rice starch  gives you a double dose of activity:softening and providing essential amino acids. ($32)

Juara has 3 killer body products and I can’t tell you which one to buy except that eventually
you will have all three. They are that great!

The Candlenut Body Polish is rich in linoelic andlinolenic acids to help restore skin’s protective
barrier. It has a blend of candlenut oilk, illipe butter and rice bran and avocado ols too for serious
hydration. Walnut shell grains are the scrub part of the polish and work well. ( $32)

Candlenut Body Creme is the other half of the scrub equation — and you really will love this silky, rich body creme. It has the same hydrating formul of candlenut oil, illipe butter  and avocado and rice bran oils for lush moisture for thirsty skin. (put on  your feet at night and slip on socks over the body creme. Your feet won’t feel the same tomorrow!)($35)

My favorite of the body product is the Invigorating Coffee Scrub. This YUMMY dark brown cup of joe is just that– real  coffee and it smells it. Don’t drink this but it certainly will have you jonesing for some coffee afterwards. The ground coffee provides anti-oxidant benefits along with caffeine that tightens up the skin (the better to wake you up!) along with walnut shell grains for  sending dead, dull skin cells down the drain. ($35)

You can find Juara at www./juaraskincare.com , specialty stores, high end pharmacies and day spas in NY and the Tri-State  area. It’s come to LA and has landed  at
Planet Blue X 2(Malibu and venice), Studio at Fred Segal, Santa Monica and also
Truth & Beauty (2190 Rowena Ave), Los Angeles.
Angelenos, head out the door, jump in the car and get thee to the nearest store that carries this line.
It’s hot. It’s cool, It’s JUARA (a winner!).

If you have tried this line, please let me know what you think. I am dying to hear your comments.

See  you  at the beauty counter!
