LA Suites is the brainchild of Thompson Hotel Group owner, Jason Pomeranc and it’s the noir-ish story of a romance set against the back drop of the vintage yet vital Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. You will feel like you are there in the hotel, in LA and living "la vida LA"
Maybe you have heard of Jason Pomeranc– maybe not. You might be familiar with boutique chi-chi hotel group, Thompson Hotel Group but then again maybe not. However you will have heard/read/seen the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel both in tabloids, TV and movies and it’s now being featured in a movie being produced by the Thompson Hotel Group.
Fashiontribe’s LA Story was lucky enough to get snag some time with Thompson group principal, Jason Pomeranc
Make sure you listen to the podcast to hear Jason tell us all about this film and what’s going on. I am featuring photos in sequence from the film for your reference but this Film Noir that was shot at the Hollywood Roosevelt including the famed (or infamous) Tropicana Bar, is definitely worth catching if you have a chance. It’s going to make its way through the "film festival" circuit.
L.A. Suite is the baby of The Thompson Hotel Group, the first hotel group to produce such a film, this project and this short film marks its foray into the entertainment industry through Thompson Media, a new division of Thompson Hotels.
L.A. Suite stars Olivia Wilde (The O.C.) and Enrique Murciano (Black Hawk Down, Without A Trace) and will be released this winter. This 12-minute short explores the boundaries of anonymity and escapism in hotels and how one can transform themselves or take on new identities in the course of a stay at a hotel. The encounter of these two people develops into a provocative game blurring fantasy and reality. The audience is left to ponder which is which.
Written and directed by Marc Webb, the film is shot entirely at Hollywood Roosevelt, a Thompson Hotel.
“I wanted to do a short film that would serve as a time capsule of hotel living–as it is today. The concept of hotel living is much more about fantasy, and the idea that anything can happen, and often does, and this is what the film is conveying, in a romantic short story,”according to Pomeranc.
Thompson Hotels will continue to branch out into the entertainment field with its newly formed Thompson Media Group which will handle future music, film and print projects.
Thompson Hotels includes 60 Thompson in New York City, Sagamore in Miami and the famed Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Thompson Hotels is a partnership consisting of Larry, Michael, Jason Pomeranc and Stephen Brandman. The equity arm, the Pomeranc Group, a family-owned real estate development firm works closely with THG so that the boutique hotel chain of Thompson Hotels offer a quiet luxury to their chic, urban bohemian clientele.
Jason Pomeranc joined his family’s real estate development firm, the Pomeranc Group in 1997.
He is a co-owner of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel with new project developments in the works that could include Beverly Hills.
Next time you check into a hotel– hopefully a Thompson Group Hotel, think about this film and the notion of reality vs fantasy and how it’s so easy to transform oneself courtesy of the anonymity and the transient lifestyle offered in hotels. It’s quite a thrilling concept when one contemplates shedding ones identity for a "new skin" of a newer, more unusual persona.
See you at the Hollywood Roosevelt!!
