Well Above Average blogger, Stella must be a huge Jane Austen fan –more than me and that says a lot since I have seen Pride & Prejudice at least 6 times in various presentations.
Having created her own Jane Austen festival that includes the PBS screeners for
Miss Austen Regrets,
Sense & Sensibility, (fabulous story)
Persuasion, ( one of the older versions and a bit choppy)
Mansfield Park, ( quite good with Billie Piper in the lead role and quite different from the film version)
Northanger Abbey ( girl gone gothic mystery crazy)
plus
Becoming Jane, ( loved this film with Anne Hathaway. Who would have thought James McEvoy had such amazing talent?)
The Jane Austen Book Club ,
Pride and Prejudice (Colin Firth’s version. I don’t know which I like better: Keira Knightley or Colin Firth but he smoulders in this one. )
Emma (Gwyneth Paltrow film)
A suggestion is to take the time to thoughtfully read all the comments that Stella makes about each video/film. I pretty much was in agreement with most –though not all. Most assuredly we were in agreement about the main points of Pride & Prejudice (Keira Knightley is much better a heroine than Jennifer Ehle. Colin Firth… well you only have to read my reviews of the series to find out what I think about him but I am in complete agreement with Stella on this).
This is a “must read” piece– and because it will make you want to watch these videos/films and you might be spurred to read some Austen books or at least have an enjoyable time watching some serious drama (serious meaning this isn’t about racing cars, catching bad guys, shoot ’em up, kick-ass films).

I’m a huge Janite! Currently, I’m reading Jane Austen: A Life by Claire Tomalin, next will be 101 Things You Don’t Know about Jane Austen by Patrice Hannon, and hopefully, I’ll have time flip/read through Jane Austen’s Letters ed. by Deirdre Le Faye. I have to say Keira did not thrill me in this part. Though, generally, I like the movie. I’m still a bigger fan of the BBC version though.
