Pirate Radio is the high-spirited story (movie) of how 8 DJs love affair with rock & roll changed the world forever.
During the 1960’s, the UK government found the contemporary music scene to be abominable (the polite way of putting it) and they banned rock & roll from the airwaves in the UK.
A group of rogue DJs (lead by an American) hit the high seas of the Northern Atlantic on a ship and played rock records– breaking the law all for the love of music. The songs they played united and defined an entire generation and drove the British government crazy.
By playing rock music, they were standing up against the British government who did everything in their power to shut them down. The band of rebels is lead by The Count,
(Philip Seymour Hoffman), Quentin, the boss of Radio Rock; Gavin, the greatest DJ in Britian; Midnight Mark; Doctor Dave; and Young Carl who comes of age amidst a world of chaotic sex, drugs and rock & roll. The film features an unbelievably diverse music compilation including The Beatles, The Stones, Beach Boys, Dusty Springfield, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Smokey Robinson, David Bowie, Otis Redding, Cat Stevens– and there’s a lot more. Not only for the rock&roll junkies out there, this film is killer funny and speaks to the rebel in all of us. (rock & roll tea party anyone?)
