Have you heard of Sliimy (pronounced like Jimmy)? Have you seen this man whose energy and musical vision makes me think of a shaken up bottle of carbonated strawberry soda that explodes with fizz, color and pop– and this case the pop is music.
A 20-some year-old French singer songwriter Sliimy is a phenomenon in his own country as well as on Twitter and MySpace (myspace.com/sliimy) with over one million streams – released his debut CD “Paint Your Face” on Perezcious Music/Warner Bros. Records digitally on September 15th, Sliimy is the first artist signed to Perezcious Music – Perez Hilton’s label with Warner Bros. Records.
Sliimy
Sliimy has been described as “an artist with high energy and childlike glee that suggests a kindergarten Prince with ADD let loose in a toy instrument shop of the future” and “a tumble of colors and curls with an array of styles and eras who darts between exuberant pop-funk and mournful ballads.”
Can’t argue with that description and his fashion statement is something very much like that. He’s a jar full of sparklers and firecrackers but without the dangerous fire– snap, crackle and pop — to coin a phrase.
Others might say that Perez Hilton helped propel Sliimy’s visibility because of his label and his tour– but others might say that Sliimy would have made the “hit parade” anyway.
It’s no wonder that last month he became the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter as part of one of the biggest viral campaigns of the year with everyone from Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus tweeting, “Who is Sliimy?”
Perez Hilton started writing about Sliimy’s music last December after receiving an email of Sliimy’s cover of Britney Spears “Womanizer.” After that, it was a relatively short time before Sliimy was signed to Warner Bros. Records in France while still in high school. His CD went to No. 2 in France and has been certified gold. Sliimy opened up for Britney Spears and Katy Perry on select dates in Europe this summer.
Sliimy’s “Paint Your Face” CD was co-written by Sliimy and musical partner Feed who produced all the tracks as well.
The first single, “Wake Up,” written by Sliimy and bundled with a joyous colorful accompanying video is currently available on iTunes.
“The two ii’s are just meant to make you smile,” revealed Sliimy who was born in Saint-Etienne, France.
