And a Happy New Year to You too! What to Be Grateful for in 2010

I am sitting here writing this from my bed, laptop propped up so that it makes reflections on the wall that drives my dog absolutely insane. Took a break from writing and “retrieved my life” to go see my “must see” movie,
sherlock--holmes.jpg
Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey, Jr and Jude Law and directed by Guy Ritchie. Think of it as something like Guy Ritchie + Quentin Tarantino action and voila.. instant guy bff movie. Good chemistry, action and direction but a touch too modern and showed none of the British reserve–however, it showed off the best of Downey–particularly with his shirt off. Who would have thought that Downey with all his past mishaps could transform what was an addictive behavior into addictively fabulous performances and craft his art into something virtually seamless. If you are a RDJr fan, you need to see the movie. Just make sure you hit the matinee or discounts shows– and don’t buy the popcorn (for the calories in the oil as much as for the price.)

After the movie, hit a restaurant– Claimjumper because it’s extremely close and fast in the bar–though I wanted something a touch more upscale ( nice dinner, linen napkins, nice cocktail dessert) but that wasn’t in the cards. We hit Happy Hour so that was helpful.
Avocado Rolls
Wrapped with crushed chiles, sweet red peppers and fried crisp with ponzu ginger dipping sauce
Halibut Fish Tacos
Beer-battered halibut with shaved cabbage and roasted poblano sauce wrapped in corn tortillas with roasted salsa and lime
This is what we ate: avocado rolls — to die for. The Fish Tacos– not so much.
The sparkling wine was great– I needed more Pop from Pommery when I got home!
Given that Twittermoms.com is doing a “10 things I am going to do to get/stay fit in 2010”, it got me thinking about what 2009 was like– sort of the year in review that I accomplished a great deal despite significant issues like a parent that died just before Christmas 2008; the other parent winding up in the hospital twice in one year with serious illnesses that through everyone for a loop. The economy took its toll as well on the serious work I do.
However lots of good things occurred and I have much for which to be grateful.
So this is what’s on the plus side of my column:
1) My mom was in the hospital twice for at least 3 weeks.. at the beginning and the end of the year– and the end of the year was tied to the memorial of the burial of my father in 2008. She’s getting better and hopefully will participate fully in her own recovery.
2) Extremely grateful for not breaking my neck or requiring 911/paramedics when I fell down the stairs.(*really*) that sort of freaked me out but then again, I still have some interesting side effects
3) The chance to talk to so many of you via comments, facebook, twitter and actually meet many people in person. It’s awesome to put a name with an online voice and even put the face with it too.
4) Interviews are always interesting– whether it’s Peter Shankman , founder of HARO and shankman.com , Chris Abraham, of Abraham Harrison and profilic blogger and digital PR wizard; Thom DeLorenzo because he’s covered events for me, with me, helped me connect to people with an issue like Kathy Joosten, and did I mention that he writes for the Huffington Post?
5) my vast support group of friends –some who know me in real life, others who know me only virtually and still others who I have spoken to on the phone– who have been there with troubleshooting an array of issues (technical, editorial, employment & personal) that I have face this year. 2009 was a year for the learning curve– personally and professionaly as I seek to take everything to the next level. Call me type A, ambitious, entrepreneurial, inventive, creative and you would pretty much have me on target– along with being a pretty darn good mixiologist.
6) For all those notable people: musicians, stylists, make-up artists, directors, business leaders, authors and many people that I met and interviewed at the various conferences including the Women’s Conference for 2 years running (that kept me on OT for days doing video editing) whom I have interviewed in person or on the phone, I thank you for the opportunity to connect with you and learn more about you. You have all given me something in return for allowing me to delve deeply into your world. This includes Tim Quinn & Mara Stimac/ Armani Beauty, Home Depot, Virgin, Saints & Angels, New York & Co, Noreen Fraser, Kathleen Schwarzenegger, Patrick Schwarenegger, Leeza Gibbons along with companies and people too numerous to mention.
7) I don’t forget you my readers, colleagues (bloggers like Style It, Confessions of a Fat Girl, Feteafete, Debutante Clothing, Living in a Perfect World, Well Above Average, Shake It Up/ Signaturedavid.com , Tara Met Blog, e*starLa, Caroline on Crack, Glam.com and lots more). I have learned a great deal from you and wish you a happy, traffic-filled and prosperous 2010.
8) Thank you to every editor, online and print magazine, blog network, pr firm & person I have been blessed to work with in 2009. I promise that it will get better in 2010 simply because I am hitting my stride in this medium– while juggling the social media work that I do as well.
Stay tuned for the hot new trends of 2010 coming up and I promise this blog is going to get topical in coverage — seriously about your life and mine in 2010.
Happy New Year.
