When a bunch of former Alt.Fashion participants can get together, it’s always fun. While the newsgroup that used to have up to a couple thousand posts per day has disappeared, we were all connected to each other enough to have connected in other spots online and stayed in touch via our vast network of emails. The group is far-flung from across the country and around the globe When someone pops into town, we try to get together as best we can.
When you put said beauty junkies and fashionistas together, it’s also bound to be a bit crazy because the chatter is so random and wild. Arranged by the “Jalapeno”, we managed to meet up at Fred Segal Santa Monica’s Umami Burger restaurant. The weather cooperated and was really gorgeous considering a few days later it was storming again.
Here’s the group shot of who was there, courtesy of photographer/musician Chris Sheridan!
From front to back (starting on the right and working to the left)
Lisa of Beautycafe.com, the Jalapeno, Sheri, AW, and me (duh).
We have an assortment of photos here so just bear with the photo gallery:
Lisa/Beautycafe.com and Chris Sheridan (check out his youtube videos, “Driving Me Crazy”.)
We heart Lisa because we didn’t even think about goody bags.. but she did! Wow!! So many goodies– and we had to “negotiate” for who got what scent.
Here’s some of the swag that Ms. Lisa brought from her stock at the Beautycafe.com.
Les Senteurs Gourmandes— a selection of her fragrances with everyone getting to snag a bottle. YUMMY!
Here’s the list of fragrances that we got to scramble for (there’s more in the collection than these)
Figue Sauvage, Musc Blanc , Tendre Madeleine , Vanille Frangipanier.
I wound up with Vanille Franipanier– pretty and definitely tropical (that’s my state of mind lately. Just stick me on a beach someplace with a tall glass with some thing alcoholic please.)
Jennifer aka Jalapeno and me– you can see we love our fragrances.
We all got a sample kit of the Histoires des Parfums scents too. These are luscious and addictive! If you haven’t tried them- well you best head to beautycafe.com
Food arrived and we all pretty much ordered the same thing.

and Cheesy Tots (highly recommended by Jennifer)
These cheesey tator tots are large and have carmelized onions in them too.

I don’t know which one was better– but I didn’t finish my burger and packed it to go. it was HUGE! The Cheesy Tots could be easily split between two people because each “tot” is about the size of a JUMBO marshmallow. Yummy too.
Mexican Coca Colas were pretty much the drink of the day for most of us. (The photo features Jennifer, me and AW)
I think Sheri was having a pretty good time. We car-pooled up and we spent the time catching up.
After we finished lunch, people had other places to be: baby showers, errands, other meet-ups and AW, Sheri and I went into Fred Segal Beauty Mix to shop around. We snagged some great samples!
Then we walked over to 4th Street to this vintage meets second hand store meets recycling fashion store and we just wandered around. (In case you are in Santa Monica, it’s next door to the Border Grill)
I wound up making a serious fashion score:
This top was hanging up on the wall above everything in the store. I wanted to see it and it turned out to be Tory Burch!
I don’t know the regular retail for Tory Burch tops– or how old this one is, however I do know that it’s in great condition. I tried it on and it fit like a dream.
My total cost = about $38.20 which is a major coup.
After AW, Sheri and I finished scouring the store, we split up and Sheri and I headed back south. I would definitely say the AF mini-event was a great day. You can find more photos of the event on Lisa’s Facebook page.
We should have more photos and next time, I will use my video capacity to film something. I know why it didn’t happen this time, we were just so glad to see each other that we started talking (to which Chris can attest) and we didn’t shut up!
Had a blast. Saw a ton of great products in Fred Segal Beauty Mix. if you haven’t been there in a while, go visit, Lots of new brands and line extensions plus the layout has changed (a lot!)
