Ran into this new band called Abraham Inc that has an incredibly diverse sound that incorporates elements of indie, alt, funk with a bit of a global music feel.
The trio consists of world-renowned Klezmer-jazz clarinetist David Krakauer who has teamed up with a Canadian hip-hop producer Josh Dolgin (aka “Socalled”) and a jazz-funk trombonist from James Brown’s band – Fred Wesley. Collectively they have produced a new album called Tweet Tweet (on Pounding Table Records) that is goes beyond the “awesome” tag. Earlier in 2010, the Tweet Tweet album debuted at #7 on the Billboard Jazz Album Chart and at #40 on the Heatseekers Chart.
Abraham Inc. ushers in an amazing new sound in a time when boundaries are eroding, mutual respect is presumed, and musical traditions can hit with full force without concession or appropriation and results in the Tweet Tweet CD Backed by a three-piece horn section led by Wesley plus musicians who collaborate frequently with Krakauer and Socalled – and the result is an all-out klezmer-funk party that is fun, fascinating and definitely dance-worthy.
What’s cool about this music of Abraham Inc is that it crosses so many different genres and blends them seamlessly together. While you might not like clarinet or think it’s so old school, after listening to this CD, I defy you to sit still and not be dancing around to this music. Add in a bit of rap and hip-hop and watch this global mix-master of music turn out to be one of the best cds for dinner parties, holiday parties, gifting and just driving around town. It’s more than fun, it’s global music gone 21st century without the spiritual New Age feel — instead it has a modern, eclectic feel that will cross ethnicities, musical genres and lots of other sectors.
What you wouldn’t think would mix at all, actually is a tasty cocktail of musical hooks and instruments that make you step up the musical bar for another round!
