Kylie Edmond might not be well known on the west coast or even across the nation– yet, but she’s developing quite the fan base up and down the east coast! She’s released a new song I’ll Remember You as a prelude to her upcoming CD in 2011 and now has another one–Awkward Mornings waiting in the wings.
What’s really interesting is that this interview was done last year after the Grammys 2011. There is a second part to this interview strictly about Kylie’s attending the Grammys 2011 and now she is going to be in town for the 2012 Grammys as well. So you might be wondering WHY this post and podcast is so late? Here’s the one-liner:
I got rear-ended while 1 block away from seeing Kylie at the W Hollywood and after that little event– and by that night– I was pretty well beaten up and headed into my doc’s office for prescriptions for physical therapy and accupuncture. It’s taken about a year to get healed up– and I had a horrendous flare when before heading to upstate NY in July where I pretty much sat in a hot tub an hour per day. Hence lots of things have been slow in getting up. (Ok.. so it’s two lines!)
Kylie Edmond podcast about her new music
While I’ll Remember You isn’t as new as when we talked in this podcast, Kylie gave me a scoop about the newest song that’s about to enter her musical world and I am able to share it with you here.
Here’s a stream of Awkward Morning for you to check out.
Out of the music and personal experiences of life in NYC, Kylie and her husband Sean-Patrick Hillman created an initiative to help animals who were left in shelters about to be euthanized. The trick on getting people to adopt a rescue is to show the personality of the animal and there is nothing but cages stacked up in these shelters. Hillman & Edmond started “Rock & Rawhide” which is a 503C organization (non-profit) to donate toys and rawhide chews to animals as well as assist in them getting adopted. Here’s the video.
Did you know that between 6 – 8 million dogs and cats are surrendered to shelters every year in the US? Or that roughly half of those surrendered are euthanized? Research shows that distraction therapy can help…
Rock & Rawhide aims to increase adoptions and quality of life of dogs and cats in shelters, by providing distraction therapy and noise/stress reduction through the donations of toys, tough chew items, Kongs, Nylabones, bones, rawhides, blankets and more. If a dog is chewing, it’s not barking! If a cat is playing, it’s not meowing! Less noise = less stress. In turn, dogs and cats can pass their evaluations at shelters, and show more of their personality, making them more adoptable. We collect items through regular donations, music gigs, visual art shows, culinary events, DJ events, drop box programs, and more.
You can participate in this as well– I did! You might hear more about why Kylie is so passionate about this in the Grammys podcast tomorrow.
