RAW: Natural Born Artists Activate Installation at Tribeca’s M1-5 was the place where Eric Ryan Jones made his debut in the art world. Hand-picked from over 500 artist submissions in the tri-state area, Jones was among the 15 finalist chosen to display artwork at the city’s highly anticipated show. His unique style and presentation captivates and mesmerizes.
“I am thrilled to be working with such a wonderful organization”, says Jones. “RAW has such an incredible reputation for recognizing young talent and helping to grow, nurture and prosper it. I am honored to have been chosen to be a part of such a prestigious showcase.” Featuring six of his most coveted pieces, Mr. Jones’ work reflects his vision of New York City’s most breathtaking architecture, including the Brooklyn Bridge, the Gothic Bridge in Central Park and the Empire State Building.
Jone’s work has distinct references and origins from photography but he takes it far beyond photographic works– even digital photography- by taking elements from the photo or changing the dynamic of the subject and creating an entirely new presentation based on painting and/or drawing. He presents something that is his own creative vision
Inspired by the works of Escher and Dali – coupled with a personal passion for black and white photography – his work has a surrealist undertone in both technique and overall composition. Using his own photography as creative reference; dynamic and exaggerated perspectives are showcased within his work with the use of foreshortening and chiaroscuro techniques. Each piece spotlights a window that accentuates an attribute (i.e. cables, stones, arches) of that particular image in 3D, thus creating an illusionary use of dimension and time. “My composition reflects the structure within the boundaries of steel and stone…framing my subject, rather than bleeding it from edge to edge,” says Jones of his current scope of work.
eric ryan jones’ work is phenomenal. As a person who has taken classes in and done substantial classwork in art and photography, the presentations that Jones’ offers provide a greater dimension, a deeper vision of the world around him. It’s almost fantasy but not– but it’s an unsusual melding of styles and pieces that create a blend that becomes significant art pieces that reflect the inner vision and world of Eric Ryan Jones!
