I love Barbra Horowitz. I think she rocks because there’s nothing I like better than scoring a deal. We both love vintage, Target, scoring stuff at second hand stores and resale store. After all, the fashion mistake you bought has been sitting in the closet for eons.. so do something about it. Find it a good home and resale it. Either via Ebay or the company that Barbra Horowitz recommends or trade it out via Barbra directly so that you can swap clothing with someone else.
When Jill Kirsh Color showed me how I was wearing the wrong colors (and she was right) I went through the closet like a tornado. I had stacks of clothing that were almost as tall as me. Sharing some with the kid; some with friends; some with American Cancer Society and very specific things with Ebay– everyone made out. I found that great tees, cashmere sweaters and jeans can be found at sample sales, UniqueLA sales, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, ebay, vintage stores, resale stores and Target! You just have to know how to find it.
Thanks to the color tweak from Jill and taking a page from Barbra’s book *(oh so easy to do)here’s what I have bought in the last year or so that really works:
From a resale store in Central New York (think Finger Lakes )
Dolce & Gabbana suit
Interior of the jacket– silk leopard lining!
Price for BOTH pieces: $30!! (Score!, RIGHT?!!) (ping me if you want to see the label!)
JCrew top found in Ithaca resale/vintage store.
Here’s the collection it came from and I remember this tee and the knit was pretty much a mid-3 digits price– particularly with the embellishment.
Oh I forgot to tell you the price I paid for it: $13 with tax. (Get out of town– right?)
Score #3 is less than a real score but it’s a silk dress that I bought at regular price at Urban Outfitters. It makes a great party dress, interview dress and I can dress it down or up depending on the shoes I wear (flip flops anyone?). It was $80 which is a real deal for a silk dress. Usually you can add a 1 or a 2 before the 80 to get a great fit and look. So I thought this was a real deal.
Poetic License Shoes anyone? From the little town’s annual Sidewalk Sale (I swear I did not plan this! I had no idea it was that weekend), I got these uber cute sandals that I tried on with a tee, jacket, hat and a pair of shorts– and I swear my legs looked like a mile long! Original price was about $200- nailed these babies for $45!! *(woot!)
At Marshall’s it’s always catch as catch can. I saw so many killer boots (in JULY) at the store we stopped by but I could not buy them. I couldn’t wear them then and I didn’t have room to pack them. Instead I found these adorable Nine West embellished sandals that were on sale for $40 and I have worn them more than 20 times so the price per wearing has already paid off. I get compliments on them all the time– with skirts, shorts, pants or jeans.
