Fairy Tales for Grown-Ups: Snow White and the Huntsman Hits DVD: Infographic & More!
In this spectacular action-adventure, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) is Snow White, the only woman in the land fairer than the evil queen Ravenna (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron). Ravenna wants to destroy her young rival, but she doesn’t know that Show White has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) the queen sent to kill her. Along with a handsome prince (Sam Claflin) enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power, they assemble an armed force to recapture the kingdom composed of various segments of the quite varied population including the dwarves. This plays well as a drama and has some redeeming qualities– in special effects, Theron’s performance when she is low-key, the well-cast dwarves, other supporting cast that were under-utilized and most assuredly by Chris Hemsworth. This is not Walt Disney’s Snow White. It is NOT suitable for kids!
Also given that I have seen the movie IN a theater and was disappointed, this is your best bet to see it. No popcorn or sodas to buy– just plug it in and hit play!
Rupert Sanders captures a darker vision of the classic fairy tale “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” in his directorial debut, Snow White and the Huntsman, releasing on Blu-ray on Sept. 11. Much like in Sanders’ other earlierproject, other fairy tale stories have been adapted to have a grittier story and more adult-oriented themes including Alice in Wonderland, Beastly (remarkably good), EverAfter ( fun!), Hook, Freeway (an adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood so far afield no one would guess it) and Red Riding Hood. Most did good to great box office, others missed the mark because audiences didn’t see it.
Available now on DVD, Blu-Ray and in double disk sets available at all the usual suspects: mass market stores, electronic stores and also amazon.com
