The holidays are a joyous time but they are also a time of cleaning, decorating, shopping, cooking, card mailing, and family gatherings. Combine all that with the everyday stress that we all experience & you might be feeling like you are spinning out of control.
Now that the holidays are finally over, why not take a few hours to completely de-stress and relax yourself? Treat yourself to an at-home spa day!
Set the Mood
If you’re lucky enough to get the house to yourself for a few hours then use the time to set a relaxing mood. Turn off all the lights except for a few lamps and light some candles. Turn the radio on to a music station that plays soft quiet music. This will help you create the calming, relaxing atmosphere that you need to melt your frustrations away.
Take a Salt Bath
Soaking in a bath of warm salt water is a great way to soothe those tense, aching muscles and wash away everything that seems to be weighing down on your shoulders. Just 20 minutes immersed in a salt bath and you will emerge feeling like a new person. Any brand of Epsom salt will do however you can also purchase scented bath salts (for the bath, not the drugs please!) from any drug store for a minimal price.
Pamper Your Body
Now that you’ve drowned your stress in a tub full of fresh, warm, salty water it’s time to pamper your body. The salt water will leave your skin softened but you may also want to use a sugar scrub to buff your entire body leaving behind a healthy glow. Shower to rinse yourself completely then apply a rich great smelling lotion on your skin to keep it soft and conditioned, I’ve fallen in love with Nature’s Gate Acai Moisturizing Lotion, once I’ve used it I smell like a box of chocolates! Then you can move on to a deep conditioning treatment for your hair while you do your mani/pedi. (Search this blog for great mani/pedi tips and holiday manicure ideas!)
Fix Your Face
Cleanse, exfoliate and rejuvenate your face with a nice mask and deep moisturizing treatment. This year I’ve discovered some wonderful facial products from Emergin-C called Scientific Organics. I love the Kombucha Cleanser and Spirulina Toner.
Take a Nap
Even if you can’t quite fall asleep in the middle of the day consider spending some time on a wonderful massaging pad while you simply close your eyes and relax. Personally I could easily spend the whole day lying on this Comfort Products massage mat!
Don’t let holiday stress linger into the New Year, wipe it away with an at-home spa day and get your New Year off to a great start!
