Celebrity makeup artist and eyebrow expert Joey Healy scoped out the brows of the Emmy Red Carpet and found some winners (YAY!) and losers (OH NO!)
A-list stars glammed up the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards red carpet last night. Not only were their designer dresses the talk of the evening, but the stand out trend was beautiful brows. While some made the mark, others missed the cut. Celebrity eyebrow stylist and Brow Police Joey Healy selects the hits and misses and reveals how to get these gorgeous looks.
Hits
Sarah Hyland
This modern family starlet took the red carpet by storm! With her hair pulled back in a chic ponytail, Sarah’s bold brows were the center of attention. Not only were her arches well-defined they also had the perfect amount of color, making them on point to match her warm brunette hair. Sarah’s brow also balanced her burgundy lip, giving her a look that was elegant, young and fresh.

Christina Hendricks
I was MAD over Christina’s brows as she arrived at the Primetime Emmys yesterday evening looking better than ever! Going along with many of the season’s trends, Christina’s brows appeared soft and romantic but were still perfectly defined. With a brow that worked effortlessly to complement her porcelain skin, Christina looked absolutely angelic.

Jane Lynch
With Jane Lynch’s chopped coif, there was no hiding these brows! Her ashy-taupe brow color not only helped frame her eyes, but also added to her soft makeup for a well-balanced look. Although she was one of the more mature women walking across the red carpet, Jane’s well-defined brows made her appear ageless and as she kept up with the younger stars’ brows.

Michelle Dockery
Known for her aristocratic role on Downton Abbey, Michelle arrived at the Emmys looking like Hollywood royalty. Her brow was well defined with a dramatic high arch. With a properly shaped arch that really enhanced her eyes, Michelle’s brows look absolutely fierce.

Misses
Julia Louise Dreyfus
Although she may have won best actress in a comedy, Julia was a close second when it comes to the brow category. Although her makeup was natural and flattering against her rich brunette hair, Julia’s brows appeared weak. Instead of a brow shape that would enhance her facial features, Julia’s did just the opposite as the tails appeared droopy, ultimately adding age to her eye.

Ann Gunn
Ann’s brows are breaking all the rules when it comes to color, making her perfectly shaped arches go unnoticed. With no shading, Ann’s brows take away from her facial features and make her appear washed out. Her shaping is on-point, but adding even the slightest color to Ann’s brows would have put the cherry on top of her beautiful Emmys look!

Amy Poehler
A major knope to the red carpet were Amy Poehler’s brows. Not only were Amy’s arches asymmetrical and too light in color, they also appeared to be shaped entirely too high and arched at two different points along the brow bone. With a shape that is entirely wrong for her face, Amy’s brows made her appear aggressive as she arrived on the red carpet.

Sofia Vergara
While normally a veteran eyebrow superstar, Sofia’s brows appeared overpowering and neglected at last night’s Emmys. Unlike her standard to-die-for arches, Sofia’s red carpet brows add weight to her eyes as they appear too close together, and lack a visible arch and tail. Although her makeup is finished to pinpoint precision, her brows simply do not match.

They do all look good. I guess I never focus on brows, but since you mention it, they match the colors well and flatter the faces.
I am increasingly aware of brows, I think they add a ‘groomed’ effect that is very subtle – I’m seriously thinking of trying threading on my rather heavy brows
Brows are really important and can make a huge difference even if you aren’t wearing a lot of makeup. It’s like a bit of sheer foundation (bb or cc cream) It’s just enough to give you a groomed look
NOT that mine are working too well- I need to get to a good brow groomer because my brows grow in blonde and then turn dark brown – so you can’t see the brows till they get a certain length
