I had always wanted to see CHEF when it was in theaters. It was a fun movie that while it dealt with a serious topic, the movie didn’t seem to take itself too seriously. I thought it would be a good slice of life flick and would be fun to see Vergara in a theater. Unfortunately, I never made it to the theater to see it on a big screen. I was very disappointed and tried to get there but it wasn’t meant to be!
Instead I got to review a Blu-ray version of this movie courtesy of the movie’s PR and while it wasn’t as big as the theater (nor did it have the theater popcorn), I did get to see this in great detail! The Blu-ray delivered great clarity and color. I thought it was such a fun movie. While it was a serious subject about a chef leaving the restaurant he was hired to manage and going out on his own.
Chef Carl Casper suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner, he is left to figure out what’s next. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife, his friend and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen — and zest for life and love
I had ZERO 411 that the cast included Scarlett Johanssen, Dustin Hoffman and Robert Downey Jr. were in this film along with Jon Favreau and Sofia Vergara. The cast also included John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale and Oliver Platt. This story was hung on this great cast and amazing boy who did a great job playing the son of Sophia and Jon.
I thought the plot dragged on a bit in the middle of the launching of the food truck but the story rounded out quite nicely with everyone in the spot they needed to be. It’s a great family flick for the most part and does teach a lesson .

I would really recommend this for holiday weekends.. it’s a great movie for an array of ages. Plus it gets me in the mood to make Cubano sandwiches
