Who Is Dennis Stokely?
DENNIS STOKELY is living his dream working as a celebrity hairstylist. Born in Georgia, trained in New York, Dennis landed the gig-of-a-lifetime in Hollywood as Paula Abdul’s hairstylist on AMERICAN IDOL. His work has appeared on red carpets everywhere including the Oscars,Emmys,Grammys and Golden Globes.
Dennis works with top industry pros, creates stunning bridal hairstyles, is constantly booked to teach his “Master Class in the Art and Business of the Beauty Industry” and gives back by donating his time and energy to many charities. He is also working to develop his signature-line of Hollywood inspired hair care products. Dennis’ remarkable career continues to grow, in large part, because he loves what he does.
I know Dennis Stokely because I cover beauty. I talk to various celebrity stylists and Dennis Stokely is an amazing man who creates great beauty with hair styles– for brides, friends and celebrities. He’s exceptional at what he does. He’s worked with many brands and events to create new ways of expressing beauty with hair products and tools…. and he’s phenomenal at it.
In 2014, Dennis was the featured speaker at the St. Croix Bridal Symposium, US Virgin Islands where he met Colin Cowrie. That event lead to Stokely being featured on ColinCowrieweddings.com. I am able to feature parts of this interview. This interview was done by Melissa Hammam and Dennis Stokely for ColinCowrieweddings.com
Q:What is the best part of your job?
A: I love seeing the transformation in confidence and the happiness on the faces of clients when I create hairstyles.
Brooke Anderson of Entertainment Tonight with Dennis Stokely
Q: What is your favorite trend right now?
A: Multiple Hairstyles! Last summer, I worked with a bride that couldn’t decide on a hairstyle. So I suggested that we do them ALL! We did big-sexy-hair for a pre-ceremony photo shoot, a half-up hairstyle for the rehearsal, a very chic up-do for the ceremony and for the reception we took her hair down and added a stunning headband with bling! Just wait, “multiple bridal hairstyles” will be the next big thing!
Q: Who, what and where inspires you?
A: WHO: My mother, old Hollywood screen sirens and the work of two celebrity hairstylists from today, Garren and Oribe.
WHAT: Up-do’s from the 1950’s & 60’s, Egyptian hairstyles and braids from hundreds of years ago and any challenging hairstyle request.
WHERE: The red-carpet. I love collaborating with amazing make-up artists, designers and celebrities to create show stopping, red carpet hairstyles. And I absolutely love taking those looks and making them work for a bride.
Q: What’s next?
A: Awards Season is in full swing and I am always looking for my next muse to style for the red carpet. I am developing my Hollywood inspired line of hair care products and I continue to travel and teach my “Master Class in the Art and Business of the Beauty Industry.” I am also gearing up for an incredible year of bridal hairstyles. Life is good!
Q: Finally, tell us a style secret that can make a bride look magical! (We promise we don’t tell)
A: Embellish the hair with an amazing hair accessory: headbands embellished with jewels, crystals, feathers, sequins, French-lace or satin-ribbons are my favorites.

These ladies look lovely of course. I agree with that tip on embellishment. I just shopped at the gem show for hair claws. These wooden sticks have fancy ornaments and colored wood, creating an automatic focus point and do.
