Maybe Valentine’s Day hit you like a ton of bricks. Maybe you thought about it and then got busy and forgot. It happens but here’s what you can do to make up for a lackluster gift (if any gift for a “faux-holiday” can be lackluster) or forgetting about it entirely.
Make it a mutual shopping excursion online OR find something that works for the recipient in their home. Typically that’s either tech toys or kitchen gadgets and this post features kitchen gadgets or tools that will work for you for a belated Valentine’s Day as well as any other gift-giving opportunity you have (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, birthdays, bridal showers, wedding gifts, anniversaries are events that might be on your radar!)
Move over Keurig! Remington’s iCoffee Opus Single Serve Coffee Maker is here!
Check out this new single-serve brewer from Remington. You might find a new love of your life in this machine. It says it gives you better flavor balance and also less acidity and bitterness. (That got my attention).
It can use all the K-cup coffees out there plus your own regular coffee if you want to create your own personalized coffee with the special single serve brewing cup.
This new device was reviewed by Katie Linendoll at Christmas 2014.
What was old is new again: Pressure Cookers!
Pressure cookers are now becoming increasingly popular in homes across the country. The technologies have evolved quite a bit since they were first introduced in France in the 1600’s. They are now easy and safe to use, allowing anyone who is pressed for time (i.e. everyone!) to prepare homemade, healthy, and delicious meals for themselves and for their families, without dedicating hours to the stove. Pressure cookers can create meals that traditionally take hours to prepare in just a fraction of that time.
A pressure cooker is great for year round cooking – from the cold weather comfort foods that we are all craving right now – soups, stews, and roasts to summer favorites including pulled pork, potato salads, and more. And it’s not just for meat dishes – cooking times for beans and grains is dramatically reduced as well – Think: Risotto in 20 minutes!
If you are like me, you haven’t used a pressure cooker! I have friends who look like I have grown horns when I mention pressure cookers OR I have friends who laugh at me because they know I have never used a pressure cooker and they have them on tap always for fast, easy cooking of time-crucial meals.

These are some cool gadgets. You tempt me to return to a pressure cooker, but honestly I have no place to put it away. The lean green prep machine is tempting too.
