I love dogs and all kinds of pets. In case you didn’t know that, I had to share that up front. This post features TWO different events over the next couple of weeks for you to support local So. CAL rescue agencies.. and honestly all the rescue organizations need help as the animals rescued are often malnourished and have health issues.
April 24: Wags and Walks!
Wags and Walks, a leading Los Angeles based dog rescue, wants to raise enough funds to save 1,000 local at-risk puppies and dogs beginning with its Fourth Annual “Muttin’ But Love Gala.”
The event will take place on
Friday, April 24, 2015 at 8 P.M.
SLS Hotel Beverly Hills — with special VIP dinner starting at 7 P.M.
Life-saving funds will be raised leading up to and during the event through ticket sales, donations and auction items.
At last year’s gala, Wags and Walks raised $50,000 which was enough to save the lives of 100 puppies and dogs from the streets and high-kill shelters of Los Angeles. This year, Wags and Walks is striving to raise enough funds to save the lives of at least 1,000 local puppies and dogs. This new goal is a 400 percent increase and is the highest in the organization’s history.
“The fact that we’re attempting to save so many animals in 2015 is something I’ve always dreamed of, but I also know that the pressure is on more than ever,” said Lesley Brog, Chief Animal Lover and Founder of Wags and Walks. “That’s why every ticket sale and donation made at the gala matters. We must ensure that there are enough resources to facilitate saving this many lives and the gala is our biggest source of such funding. These dollars allow for us to carefully save each animal from the streets or from high-risk shelters and place them in loving forever homes.”
Wags and Walks is already having a record year finding itself to be one of the fastest growing animal rescues in the country with its forever home placements up 1,186 percent compared to this same time in 2012. In addition, Wags and Walks is pioneering the way that pet families are built by raising awareness of its available puppies and dogs through unique and innovative ways such as participating in the country’s first ever dog café, partnering with Uber during the Super Bowl to bring L.A. residents a real-life puppy bowl experience and launching “pup-up shops” to connect canines and people in a temporary pet store environment.
For a second year in a row, the Fourth Annual “Muttin’ But Love Gala will take place at the beautiful SLS Hotel Beverly Hills and is a premiere event for animal lovers. Attendees will enjoy a night full of drinks, dancing, casino games, silent auctions, small bites and desserts. The gala will also honor the animal rescue efforts of Maria Menounos, Scott & Leann Gibson and Layne Dicker & Sally Spencer, who all have demonstrated dedication and passion in saving the lives of our furry friends.
The emcee’s of this year’s gala will be ABC 7’s Garth Kemp and Ellen Leyva.
VIP and general reception tickets start at $120 and tickets to the VIP dinner start at $425.
Both can be purchased at: www.wagsandwalks.org/gala.

Best Friends Animal Society NKLA Adoption Weekend May 2-3
Emmy Rossum and friends with adoptable animals!
Shelter pets will shine at the NKLA Adoption Weekend
Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3,
10 a.m. to 6 p.m.,
at the Page Museum of La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles.
Hosted by Best Friends Animal Society, in collaboration with PetSmart Charities, the popular event is one of several Best Friends super adoptions held twice a year throughout the country. Best Friends Animal Society is the only national animal welfare organization focused on ending the killing of shelter pets and in Los Angeles, Best Friends is leading the NKLA (No-Kill Los Angeles) initiative with a mission to transform L.A. into the nation’s largest No-Kill City.
More than 1,000 pets will be available at NKLA Adoption Weekend, with adoption fees starting at just $50. All pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped and adopters will receive a goody bag filled with toys, treats, coupons, and more.
“Any Angeleno who is looking to adopt should check out the NKLA Adoption Weekend. From playful pups and cute kittens to super sweet seniors, it’s the perfect venue to find your new best friend,” said Marc Peralta, executive director of Best Friends Animal Society – Los Angeles. “You can even bring your dog along to meet potential canine siblings at the event.”
The NKLA adoption weekends, held twice annually, are free, family-friendly and feature adoptable pets from more than 50 local shelters and rescues.
At this event, dogs and cats will be available from Los Angeles Animal Services and
Best Friends Pet Adoption Center in Mission Hills,
Border Collies in Need,
Boston Buddies,
PugNation Rescue LA,
Wags and Walks,
Labs and Friends.org,
Angel City Pit Bulls,
Kitt Crusaders
and The Cat Cove.
Several animal-loving celebrity supporters of Best Friends Animal Society’s lifesaving work will entertain at the free, family-friendly event, while guests can enjoy tasty cuisine from LA’s hottest food trucks.
Peralta is hoping for a record turnout and number of adoptions at NKLA Adoption Weekend.
“The sad truth is that 9,000 dogs and cats are killed in U.S. shelters every day. Best Friends Animal Society believes that number should be zero and adoption is a key component to making that happen,” he said. “It’s only by working together that we will Save Them All and turn LA into NKLA.”
NKLA Adoption Weekend, Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3,
10 a.m. to 6 p.m.,

You have two chances to get into the “adopting spirit” or help out by donating to one or both of these organizations. These agencies do great work for So. California rescue organizations. Please help them by adopting a dog or making some sort of donation. Nothing is too little, even a couple of bucks can add up to be a substantial sum!!

I hope lots of money will be raised in these efforts. Both deserve support for helping our animal friends, who really need it.
