I pulled information early so that you have time to shop and put together a Cinco de Mayo party!!
Most people think that tequilas are all the same. I don’t agree. In fact, based on the tequilas I have tasted, there’s a great deal of difference not only in distillation but even in where and how the agave is grown.
Riazul Tequila
When- in the late 1990’s- 620 acres handed down from generation to generation of the Orozco family landed under the control of Riazul’s founder, Iñaki Orozco knew exactly what to do with them: grow his own agave. He not only grows his own agave but also has his own brand: Riazul, a range of super premium 100% blue agave tequilas, produced entirely from estate-grown, hand-harvested piñas from Orozco’s land in the Jalisco Highlands. One of the outcomes of growing agave in the highlands is higher sugar content because of the stress the plants endure. The end result is tequilas with alluring and aromatic citrus notes and a subtle sweetness.
Riazul Plata is clear, bottled just after distillation, and has a sweet-savory scent, including aromas of pineapple and powdered sugar with pickling herbs and spices; its taste fades to roasted peppers and white pepper and uses only long-maturing agave. Riazul also produces Blanco, Anejo and Reposado tequilas.
