International singer BUIKA (pronounced BWEE-ka) is out on tour right now. The accomplished singer is well known in many countries and she has released 7 albums on Warner Music Spain Label which includes her latest disc, Vivir Sin Miedo (To Live Without Fear).
Her key single from this album is a collaboration with Jason Mraz, Carry Your Own Weight. (See video below. It might send you to Youtube.com to watch it.)
Her voice and sound are quite unique, one that the New York Times calls “something like Nina Simone’s but more flexible and virtuosic.” She has toured worldwide in five continents as well as the Caribbean Islands, and is returning to the US this month for a 9-city tour.
Buika will be in LA on Saturday, March 26, 2016 to perform at the Walt Disney Concert Hall at 8 PM.

About the Buika’s sound and the latest album, Vivir Sin Miedo:a

Fearless in her music, fearless in her life. That’s Buika, she of the sensually languorous voice that can reach fiery heights. To speak of Buika is to speak of a singer, songwriter, music producer, writer, and poet who has not only survived, but also thrived, excelled, and left her mark.
Critics, media, and fans alike have realized that Buika defies expectations and confounds conventions. An artist who follows in the tradition of those select performers who have transcended with their voice, charisma, and command of the stage – Nina Simone, Chavela Vargas, and Cesaria Evora are often mentioned – Buika stirs emotions with her vocals, pierces hearts with her lyrics, and enraptures with her presence.
Who could have imagined that María Concepción Balboa, born in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, the daughter of African parents, would become such an arresting and compelling artistic force, no matter the language. As a matter of fact, on her latest album, Vivir Sin Miedo (To Live Without Fear), and for the first time in her career, Buika sings more in English than in Spanish, often mixing the two.
As it only befits someone who has spent the last decade of her life traversing the globe, Vivir Sin Miedo (to be released by Warner Music in the fall 2015, with a first single of the same name out in the summer), is the fusion of all the experiences, feelings, lessons, passions, and rhythms that Buika has incorporated into her creative DNA.
Author of nine of the 10 songs that make up the album, it is infused with elements of reggae, ragga, flamenco, R&B, Afrobeat, and gospel, and features appearances by Meshell Ndegeocello, Jason Mraz, and producer Martin Terefe (Mary J. Blige, Mutya Buena, Coldplay), as well as the Spanish underground flamenco legend Potito.
Over the years, Buika has worked with some of the best DJs, singers, and musicians in the world, including Anoushka Shankar, Seal, Nelly Furtado, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, and Nitin Sawhney, among many others. Her most remarkable soundtrack and film collaboration came in 2011, when Pedro Almódovar featured her in his movie “La Piel Que Habito” (The Skin I Live In).
Her first album with the most English lyrics per track, Vivir Sin Miedo was co-produced by Grammy Award-winning Swedish producer, Martin Terefe (Mary J. Blige, Mutya Buena, Coldplay) and features appearances by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Jason Mraz, German neo-soul artist Meshell Ndegeocello, and Spanish underground flamenco legend Potito.
“Hope is for people who wait, I have faith. I am not scared anymore, am not scared of myself, of my things, of my fear, of absolutely anything and that’s music,” Buika states.
Through her voice, she achieved that. And through her way of living, she makes the following words by Nina Simone come true: “I tell you what freedom is to me… No fear”.The New York Times says, “[Buika] has a husky, layered and imperious voice, something like Nina Simone’s but more flexible and virtuosic.” And The New York Post raves, “A singer like Buika comes only once in a generation.” Since 2006, Buika has toured internationally throughout Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean Islands, Asia, Africa and the US. Be sure to catch Buika when she comes through the 9 US cities below, from March 19th to May 1st of this year.
