Snapshot of the Cannes Film Festival! Contributor Tasha Powell Shares Her Insights about Cannes!

My good friend and LA-Story contributor Tasha Powell is in France right now. She is attending/covering the Cannes Film Festival.
(Must be nice huh!)  It’s craziness that I totally “get” and understand having spent long days covering the Oscars and Emmys!  Because Tasha has been to France many, many times,  she knows all the hot spots in Cannes and the rest of the south of France.
Here’s her spin on what is very likely her favorite restaurant in Canne and it’s a favorite of so many celebrities!

A Slice of Heaven in Cannes!

At the opposite end of the Croisette from Le Palais du Festival, is an Italian culinary gem: a restaurant called Restaurant le Vesuvio, celebrating its 50th year in Cannes. Known for their pizzas, pastas, fish and salads, and as a cool meeting place for festival goers and locals – this has been one of my favorite restaurants for years.

Restaurant le Vesuvio is an iconic restaurant where the Cannes elite go to see and be seen.
Celebrities sightings at Cannes:
  • Pedro Almodovar
  • Penelope Cruz
  • Antonio Banderas
  • Elton John
  • Brad Pitt
  • Leonardo DiCaprio
  • Quentin Tarantino
  • Margot Robbie
  • Julianne Moore
  • Amber Heard
  • Eva Longoria
  • Uma Thurman
  • Chloe Sevigny
  • Rosie de Palma
  • Selena Gomez
  • Elle Fanning
  • Izabel Goulart

Tasha Powell with the pizza chef!

Many of the wait staff will tell you that they have worked at le Vesuvio for 18, 20 or 25 years. Le Vesuvio has created its own legacy and is a Cannes tradition for many festival attendees.

The pizza oven is proudly showcased at the entrance to the restaurant and the pizza makers skillfully create 15 varieties of pizza for their eager clientele. My personal menu favorites are:

1. Four Season Pizza: Quatre Saisons
Tomato, cheese, mushrooms, artichokes, ham & capers / Tomate, fromage, champignons, artichauts, jambon, câpres

2. Sea Bream Filet (filet de dorade) /Sea bream filet, mashed potatoes & butter sauce (Purée de pommes de terre et beurre blanc)

3. Linguine Carbonar: Cream sauce, bacon & egg yolk /Crème fraîche, lardons et oeuf

4. Tiramisu

After attending a screening of the short film competition (Compétition Courts Métrage) at the Espace Miramar, Le Vesuvio was a great choice and a short distance as I dashed between raindrops from Rue Pasteur to Vesuvio on La Croisette. Cannes had been unusually cold and rainy for the start of the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, but excitement is as high as ever.

Restaurant staff, the chef and Tasha!

Le Vesuvio is one of Cannes’ beloved restaurants and is hopping until 2 AM.

Eat at le Vesuvio. Full Stop. C’est impressionant. Established 1969, 68 Boulevard de la Croisette 06400 Cannes.
