I went through all of the OZO site and even though bits of Planterra. I wanted to learn more about this new plant-based protein. I am off and on about plant-based protein and have found some brands really work it well and others don’t have the flavor and/or texture that I really want to experience when I am cooking with it and also when I am eating it.
I checked out the OZO site and found that most of the markets around me carry this brand in 3 categories: the burgers, ground, and Mexican-flavored ground. I chose to buy the burgers from my favorite market and I was able to get them on the grill today (Sunday 7/19). Uncooked these burgers look like a real burger. They are made with some thickness and pretty much those burgers came off the grill retaining most of the moisture and thickness that they had before grilling.
The best part was building sandwiches around them. We used sourdough bread (toasted), our favorite condiments, fresh lettuce, thick beef-steak tomato slices, and the burgers. My husband ate his without cheese. I added Havarti cheese to mine (1/2 slice)
Wow! What a great burger. The burger texture held up really well. It chewed like meat and it tasted really good. It’s definitely not beef but that’s ok with me. It tastes really good. I was sorry I didn’t get another package of these burgers. I would like to do something else with these burgers.
Both my husband and I are impressed with how well the burger held up while we were eating (the burger survived better than the bread did). It was really a great meal. We knew were eating something solid that tasted great and was satisfying as a meal.
The price is pretty comparable to other plant-based burger-type patties. The flavor and texture is a lot better than my previous favorite. We are looking forward to trying the 2 ground versions too!
