The Proper Order to Apply Ingredients –and Products– in Your Skincare Routine

Applying your skincare products in the proper sequence enables your skin to receive the full benefits of each product. The order of application is vital. The skin’s function is to keep things out, but when we use skincare products, we want them to get in to be absorbed. If you don’t apply products in the right order, you will not reap optimal benefits from your skincare routine.
Obviously, the more products you incorporate, the more confusing it can become.
A general rule of thumb to adhere to is to apply your products with the thinnest consistency to thickest, or from liquid to cream.
–The goal is to use the products with the ingredients that are most beneficial to penetrate into the skin such as serums or antioxidants.
–Finish the process with the products that should be on top of the skin like moisturizers.
–These recommendations will cover a typical daytime regimen.
_-If you use skincare in the evening, these products have their proper “order” as well.
Anti-Aging Resurfacing Cleanser
STEP 1: CLEANSER
In the morning, begin with a warm splash of water on your face. Wash with a cleanser that is gentle or specifically designed for your skin type. The anti-aging resurfacing cleanser is a great choice of this “first step product”!
STEP 2: TONER
Toners are not as commonly used as they once were. Although they cannot “shrink” your pores, the more advanced formulas can function as a delivery system for other ingredients. Pick the right toner for your skin so it is not too harsh.
STEP 3: ANTIOXIDANT SERUM
Serums are very concentrated and nutrient-dense treatments that are formulated to address specific skin issues. Look for serums that buffer or neutralize damage from the sun’s rays and other environmental factors.
STEP 4: EYE CREAM
The eyes are typically the area of the face that age first. Even in your 20’s, it’s not too early to start using an eye cream to maintain the thickness of the eyelid skin and plump underneath the eyes.
STEP 5: MOISTURIZER
Even if you have oily skin you still need a moisturizer. The best time to apply a moisturizer is while the skin is still damp. Step 6: SUNSCREEN
Sunscreen should always be the final step in your daytime skincare routine unless you use chemical sunscreen. This is due to the fact that this type of sunscreen has to be absorbed into the skin to be effective, so applying after your moisturizer will delay that. Ideally, it is best to find a non-chemical sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays.
