George Clooney
Colour: The black and white look is fantastic now that he is turning grey
Shape: Perfect- not a flaw in sight! No creases, perfect proportion in his black tie suit, well fitted and tailored on his body. His trousers have the right length and trouser leg, which set off nicely his silhouette.
Style: He symbolizes what you expect to see from the Oscars! One of kind glamour- people who look and dress out of this world- who incorporate an “uber style and class” in their outward appearance by setting standards! He incorporated in his look an understated gloss and shine, which are picked up at in a very subtle way throughout his look.
Overall Rating: 6****** Six Stars
Heidi Klum
Colour: Beautiful choice for her and for this gown
Shape: She has got the body for such a dress. The high collar line works well next to her neck and on her decoltee line. She has the perfect bosom to cope with the additional detail but also at the same time it is not over competing with the dramatic collar line. She has the height, the long legs and the long waist to pull off the overskirt of the dress without looking bottom heavy. It also created a perfect counter balance to the collar line while the overskirt sits perfectly at her waist to give her a beautiful proportional hourglass shape.
Style: Though the dress is more of a ball gown type of dress and maybe a bit too much for the Oscars, you need to consider that this dress had the purpose to be auctioned for a charity. So it had to look eye catching, one of kind and had to be set in motion a picture to fetch a good price. Her hairstyle is perfect for this dress- it has the needed volume to balance it, but also is away from her face in order to not interfere with the dress, so bidders can imagine themselves wearing it.
But the rest of her styling…now here is where things went wrong! I like the Bridget Bardot eyes, but please make the look more current. Her whole make up is a tribute to the 80s. It is lacking spark, gloss and shine. Her foundation is far to yellow and her rusty blush on her cheeks have such a tiring effect next to her black eye make up. Her fading pastel pink lipstick is not helping here.
Why didn’t she just opt either for a transparent look to give her bit of shine or much better left the rusty blucher at home, gone for a paler foundation and opt instead for a comparable red lipstick. Next fashion faux pas is not so much the style of her earrings but the colour! That pink shade next to her yellow foundation with the rusty blusher and black eye make up-just makes you cringe.
As mentioned with this make up she would have been better advised to have a transparent lipgloss, dropped the earrings and opt for golden braclets, bangles and clutch bag. I would have given her either a deep purple or green clutch bag or ring to add drama and set a signature look.
Overall Rating: 4****( All down to styling otherwise it would have been a hit! in red) Four Stars
Lady Helen Mirren
Colour: The red is great for her colouring and the glitz in jacket works well with her silvery hair, but…
Shape: One has to say the shape of the dress is a stunner and fabulous choice for her shape, age and occasion. The corsage in her top half gives her a beautiful shaped waist and décolleté line, where everything is pushed into its dutiful place. The asymmetrical waist gives it not only a current look but also knowledgably incorporated how to make it work for her. Her proportions are not affected by this asymmetrical waistline, because the overcoat is attached in the middle of her waist. Though the overcoat gives her a lot of drama on her lower part it is nicely counterbalanced with her ¾ long crystal cape. This cape is different in colour and material and the result is that visually it gives it more volume and substance to her top half. The idea is great, but…
Style: Are you serious to combine crystal and lace with duchess satin material? Either you go all crystal or you find another material like an artificial fur cape with a big crystal vintage broche in the middle? The crystal lace cape looks incredibly tacky next to her dress- it really cheapens her look big time. It would have been much better not attach it to the dress but left it as a separate piece – that would have give her already a better look because that “thing” would have been a bit more detached from her dress. The rest like lipstick, earrings and clutch bag are right on track again. Beautiful- if that crystal lace wouldn’t have been part of this outfit.
Overall Rating: 4**** Four Stars ( she would have gotten a 6*, but not with this cape of hers!)
Hilary Swank
Colour: She makes this black work for her by wearing it away from face, softening it with exposing her pale skin colour and by making use of soft white and light material.
Shape: Wow- fabulously executed for her body shape and proportion. The asymmetric feature works nicely around her neck and décolleté line, which is wonderfully accessorised with details such as different weaves in fabrics and soft white. It gives her a beautiful shaped bosom that is beautifullyunderlined by her long waist in this dress. Since she has a long waist she can pull off this bandage weave around it and it does not cut her height, because she has the right leg height that sets everything in proportion. The mermaid hemline is beautifully counter balanced with the asymmetric neckline and gives her the perfect hourglasss silhouette.
Style: Superb! Understated glamour to perfection! Her make up looks natural glamorous, her hair is shiny and though pulled back it is done in soft kind of way so it is not hardening the black dress. The dropped earrings are beautifully assembled and a nice substitute for a coloured lip gloss. Though her clutch bag is black it was chosen in a glossy and different fabric to the dress, so it is set apart but still not distracting from the different fabrics used in her dress.
Overall rating: 6****** Six Stars
