What to Do on New Year’s Day? Football? Skip It!

I know that New Year’s Day is typically devoted to football. However given that the Rose Bowl had NO ONE from the Pac 10 involved in it– 2 teams played that weren’t from anywhere near here.. why bother watching? Rose Parade? Yawn! Movie Theaters? Busy!
Shopping? Nope. Parties? People too partied out from the night before.
What do you do when all you saw of New Year’s Eve was the fireworks?
Head to Disneyland!! Yes—- Disneyland. The park had been crowded and filled to capacity for days so chancing the day on the big D was a planned manuevuer– particularly since it’s been so chill in LA.

Thanks to brilliant driving (those who know my driving know what I am talking about), navigation and brilliant strategy, we walked into Disneyland park at 11 on the dot– with virtually NO crowds.
This post is pretty much a photo essay of things seen, done and LOTS more going on.

Many were wearing 2011 Disney tees and hoodies. LOTS of gloves, coats, hats and scarves as it was still in the low 50’s in the sunshine.

Christmas Tree on Main Street

Walking down Main Street..

Since I had missed breakfast, feeding me was key. Coffee wasn’t enough (antibiotics still on board from the Tuesday MD visit). Checked out the “all you can eat” buffet but since I really don’t eat much (and certainly not $28 worth.. with no cocktails or champagne to make it worth the effort)

Sleeping Beauty’s Castle– a cropped view. You don’t need to see everyone posing.

Since the buffet was out, the Riverbelle Terrace was serving hot breakfast stuff still.
Some were ordering Mickey Mouse Pancakes, others were ordering pancakes, eggs and bacon; others potatoes, eggs, sausage and biscuits. Hot coffee was definitely the hot ticket of the day!! (bill $20!! — what a deal)

Dumping the coffee to head into Pirates of the Caribbean— with literally a less than 5 minute walk/wait/line, I managed to score some photos with both my Motorola Droid Phone:

The first sequence of Pirates of the Caribbean! Thank you Motorola for such a great camera!

A Pirate skeleton looking at a map with a magnifying glass (courtesy of cell phone)

Dropped cell phone into the bag and it was still on. Went to shut it off and accidentally shot a photo of myself – that was actually upside down but posting a photo of myself upside down would be oxymoronic (emphasis on the moronic)! ( That’s why it’s right side up.. and it shows that despite everything, smart phones aren’t always smart) So that was the end of shooting by phone!

Pirates with the donkey and the dog (regular camera)

Pirate and the barrel (regular point & shoot camera)

Pirate with Captain Jack and the dog. (*all photos from here on are with my regular camera)

The dog with the keys to the pirates in jail.

That was the last of the POTC photos.
Walking around New Orleans Square, we ran across this great display of Christmas decorations.
