Jaqua Does the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel!

I got a cool invite to a "Silver Spoon" Hollywood event at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. You know that hotel–it’s been in ALL the tabs (tabloids) and  you hear about the celebs hanging out by the pool and that they get pretty crazy. Ever wonder what it’s really like there?

Silver Spoon sets up these amazing events where celebrities come and meet with various vendors and it’s fun to go to one of these events. I have been to several: Emmys, Golden Globes, VH1 etc. and had a blast because I learn about hot products that you will see/hear/know in at best 2 weeks and sometimes 2 months.   I sometimes scoop the print magazines with the new stuff.

I got an adorable invitation in the mail about the new holiday  Jaqua Beauty products. Jaqua does amazing body products. I have known Jennifer and Sara Jaqua since the company started out as TomGirls  with the party kits (spa party in a can; manicures in a can.. enough for 4-6 girls to have a girls night in!) Anyway, I love their line. I have several of their products (the Pumpkin Papaya Mask is superb! The shower gels are yummy.) Their latest array of products has been about replicating scents/ideas from their favorite places in their home town of Santa Barbara. I know SB pretty well since my SO (significant other) went to school there.  They have presented collections on the bakery and cafe — imagine body products that smell like bakery and cafe  foods. It’s the foodie’s dream  line.

This Silver Spoon party was to present new holiday collections to the press and celebrities (YES there were celebs) and they did it at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel out at the Tropicana Bar by the pool!
This is the bar created by Amanda Schmeer-Demme with Hockney designed mural at the bottom of the OLYMPIC pool. WAY Cool place. It’s always in the tabs.  The event was by invite only and you had to be ON THE LIST to get past the doorman! (no lie!) Thankfully I had gotten 4 different invites for this so I replied 3 times and my gf and I were welcomed warmly!

Here’s a recap of the events so you can pull up a glass of whatever or a cup of somethin’ and  come along for the "ride". My friend Tricia decided to come with me for this  event. It’s fun to have someone to share an event with because they see things that I don’t ( plus it helps with getting in the carpool lane and also navigating so I don’t have to double and triple back too many times). I am always scoping out the products, talking to the designers and working with PR. When my friends join me at these events, they are my eyes and ears for everything else.

Wearing  the typical standard LA dress: jeans, stilettos (me)/wedges (Tricia) and little  cami tops, we walked the distance of the Olympic pool with the turquoise bottom painted with little commas on it. It’s so cool. The weather was cooperating because it was freaking hot in LA that day and so by the 7 ish timeframe that we got to Hollywood Blvd, it was pleasant.. and it was also martini time because of the traffic to get to the hotel (20 mins to go four block.. puhlease!)

The pool has tons of couches, lounges (not beach lounges) and chaise recliners by the pool with tiny tables. The bar opened and a server came by and took our order for martinis–fruity martinis . I saw Sara and Jennifer Jaqua and caught up with the head PR person for Jaqua and they gave us a tour/presentation of the different products. (there’s a photo on wireimage of the two of us with Sara Jaqua) YUMMY!Such  fab new stuff. The scents are amazing–definitely made you want to eat them up.. or use them up.  Great textures and cute presentation.  Loving that!

We got our martinis and sat down to drink them but eek someone forgot to add some fruit juice to make them sweet. Raspberry fruity martini it wasn’t.–how about straight liquor, straight up!! Instead we people-watched and got hand massages with the buttercream hand cream. (luscious!)

Food was circulated and the tuna tartare was to die for. Thanks Tricia for convincing me to try it. They had little egg rolls and mini burgers (we didn’t get those!) but we went a second round on the tartare and egg rolls because we were hungry. I grabbed juice thanks to being the DD (designated driver).

After this, I ran into some other writers and lots of PR people who I had never met but spoke to frequently on the phone. We exchanged biz cards and talked about clients and made some plans (already in progress) for coverage and lunch/coffee dates too. I love the connections/networking potential at these events. It makes my life easier!  (Also there’s a new salon in town MAXIME.. I will be writing about that another time.) It was great to meet the Foot Petals creator. I love her products. I buy them all the time because I want them in all my heels and boots to prevent me from slipping in shoes, preventing blisters etc. (drugstore.com!)

Scoped out some celebs like these people.. I didn’t see all of them but I did see a bunch from cable shows and other networks like Fox

Melissa Rivers –didn’t see her
Haley Duff — nope
David Spade –maybe?
Nicole Eggert -yes
Penelope Jimenez -yes
Clara Lee –yes on the next 3

Trevor Wright –maybe
Veronica Portillo –yes

and lots of magazine people from several new magazines debuting in LA including C, Adore Shop, and GenLux. So keep your eyes peeled US, the LA magazine market is booming!

We  had a nice time but it was getting really crowded. The DJ was cueing up the tunes and it was getting loud.  We decided to get our goody bags, add a couple things for desk use and depart.

This party had great goody bags that included tons of Jaqua products and if you wanted a tee, you could grab one ( I did. chocolate l/s tee with Jaqua on the chest) and extra products like glosses and small hand creams. Other participants in the  event/bags included

  • Amy Jo Gladstone–great slippers and lounging footwear.
  • Barielle–he best nail/hand/feet treatment products around!
  • Foot Petals–great little product. so handy for the shoes. I can’t live without them during events

We needed to book it back down south. It’s a trek to get back to the fwy and it was getting MORE crowded at the event. It would take forever to get another drink. We scurried out and handed our ticket to the valet and got the car. ( Uh people not in LA, beware of valet parking.  mucho  dinero.. can be pricy. Thank goodness I mentioned the event. I got a discount. *high five*)

Cute valets.. he got a double tip! We flew back down La Brea to the 10 fwy ( I love to drive because I love the speed) and headed on down south. (don’t you know I live at least 60 minutes from LA?? it took us longer to get from the 10 to the hotel on the  outbound trip  than it took for us to get home)

Any questions? If you want to see event photos, head to wireimage.com and check out the 7/25 Jaqua event.

    I love LA!!
