Ok, let’s just acknowledge that I am late here. No big deal. We can all use a new drink once in a while and since there are watermelons *everywhere* these days — as well as other melons, here’s a a drink from Fetefete.com’s Tami that she talked about in celebration of National Watermelon Day.
This is the Peppermelon Cocktail. For the recipe, you have to hit the Feteafete.com blog. It’s pretty simple to put together.
In case you want something that’s a bit less spicy but equally well-balanced, check out this drink that was made up by the Hennesy Cognac mixologist “on the spot” when I was there for an event.
Watermelon muddled and sieved (to remove the dregs of the fruit and just have pure juice)
Grand Marnier– a small splash,
Soda or Tonic– your choice (and I don’t remember which one but you can play around with this yourself)
Stir all this over ice and then mix in
A shot of Hennessy Cognac— your choice of XO or VSOP.
Pour carefully into cocktail glasses or on the rocks!
This is a luscious, not sweet drink that just is light and refreshing. The name — christened that day as “The Refresh” and Maurice Hennessy felt it was very much in keeping with the weather and the brand. He was completely right (and extremely charming) .
I figure this could be done with just about any melon– even a thicker flesh melon could be run through a blender or a juicer or a Cuisineart machine and then strained. ( Think honeydew, cantalope, Persian melon).
You might want to check this one out!! Surprise your friends with a pitcher of these cocktails!!
