It’s not often that I get a chance to review a TV series or a movie that’s truly suitable for the entire family. Either it’s of the “Disney” variety where it’s been spun to the kids or it’s got some adult overtones that you just hide the kid’s eyes and ears so that they don’t see something they shouldn’t. Hoping to find all this in one series isn’t exactly easy– and finding it with a quirky, twisted bit of humor — that’s pushing your luck or maybe it’s Pushing Daisies .
This quirky, comedic, almost mystery, should definitely on your must see list. If you missed it last season due to the writers strike, now’s the time to play catch up and get with the program (literally and figuratively speaking) by watching the first season on DVD and then making sure you get the second season recorded or play catch-up with reruns!
This series has a great hook and it’s about the ability to bring someone back to life with the mere touch of a hand. However, touch that now undead person again, and that person’s gone forever. That’s the game that Lee Pace plays and he does a really great job of walking that fine line of satire and pushes the comedy just so far and then stops.
His supporting cast is killer: Chi McBride (Boston Public) as his partner, Anna Friel as the love of his life who happens to have been brought back to life so there’s only so many real life touches that she can endure. Kristin Chenowith, Swoozie Kurtz (Swoozie we love you!) and Ellen Greene round out a stellar cast that really makes this series addictive courtesy of a whack world and crazy comedy with a distinctive bent.
Check out the two video embeds in the next section. One is the trailer and the other was shown at Comic-Con!!
