If you are packing up your home, apartment– no matter the reason- you have my sympathies. It’s a thankless, merciless chore that beats you up and is so stressful. It’s a “Calgon take me away” moment (or month depending on how you deal with it). To me, it’s one of those events that makes me shudder!!
Paige Davis, best known for her hosting of Trading Spaces, has a lot of tips to share on how to make the moving process a lot less hassle and more stress-free. However this isn’t so much about making this less expensive but actually preserving your belongings and making sure they get from one place to another in one piece and actually are your things.
I know when I have moved a few times that allowing husbands to wrap crystal cost me over a dozen champagne flutes because they were wrapped in paper– not in bubble wrap or popcorn or even towels. Also I have some rather unfond memories of seeing my work clothes being carried in having been tossed onto a blanket hangers and all and the guys carrying all the stuff like a picnic blanket. (My designer suits were never quite the same when shoes, boxes of jewelry and beauty products were tossed on top)

Thanks to Paige Davis for her very smart tips regarding moving. It would definitely be easier to have someone else pack you up and move your boxes. At least they would wind up in the right rooms.
Getting estimates is a wise idea. Also check with your insurance agent about the best way to make sure you are completely covered in the transfer of your possessions from location to location.
One can never be too careful.
