Guest blogger Wonderfully Weird (Kanarian Kindred) takes us to around the world to Finland and how it’s a center for fashion and accessories. It’s a unique overview of diverse designers and fashion perspectives from the land of Northern Lights!
In today’s society it seems everyone is chasing the next big thing, especially in fashion. Whether it’s the new Jordan’s, Prada slippers, or Louboutin’s, everyone wants a piece of top products. This is fine but what about those with a weird sense of style? The person that marches to the beat of their own drum, while straying from the normal fashion market.
Have no fear because Wonderfully Weird has arrived. The weekly blog posting various fashion items including: clothing, jewelry, shoes, and styling tips considered odd by others. My style is different from most because it focuses on funky, different, and classy pieces others tend to shy away from.
This week focuses on the various styles of Finland. I have compiled a short listing of vintage, as well as current styles for this week’s feature. I hope you enjoy it.

In 1962 Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko, defined Marimekko as “a cultural phenomenon guiding the quality of living”. She built a utopia called Marikylä (“Marimekko Village”), whose aim was no less than to house the staffs and to function as a laboratory for product design and to develop new ways of life. This year Marimekko will bring to life the Marimekko Village of today. The following items are samples of her creations. Source link: Marimekko
According to the company website, “Our Leikillään jewelry collection was inspired by designer Mia Maljojoki’s childhood adventures. Our Hattara necklace has sweet candy colors that blend beautifully with dark wood.”

The story of the Minna Parikka brand began when Minna decided at the tender age of 15 that designing shoes was her life’s true calling. “I felt like I’d been struck by a lightning when I first realized I could actually make a career out of making shoes.”
After moving to England at 19 to pursue a degree in footwear design, Minna spent the next six years living, working and finding inspiration in London, Milan and Barcelona. She returned to her native Helsinki in 2005 to launch the Minna Parikka brand. Source: Minna Parikka
