I love late spring and early summer. Warm weather agrees with me. My spirit seems to crave the warmth of the sun on my skin, the gentle breezes skimming curves. I used to spend all my extra time outside in the sunshine. These days I am following dermatologist orders to wear lots of sunblock and stay out of the sun. However that doesn’t mean I can’t party like I am spending a chunk of time outdoors. Actually it gives me opportunity to be creative in appreciating the sun by seeking out tropical and interesting cocktails as well as mixing up my own. It becomes my vicarious vacation that doesn’t require luggage, TSA or a horrific meal on a plane. Instead I get my dose of interesting spirits quickly — via a creative mixology.
When Foodie.com’s editor Damaris mentioned the May 2014 SPRING foodie content submission theme it was about us creativing something. I jumped in and asked if I could do cocktails to feature new cocktails for summer in pitcher or singular glass format. They seemed to like that idea and approved it. While I have been busy working on some cocktails (and I am not quite finished with my versions), I collected some recipes from Foodie.com with tweaks to the recipes. Gin And Tonic Sorbetto, Watermelon Agua Fresca, Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie are a few I have tweaked. I will have something new added every week during the month of May 2014.

I also found a couple of cocktails from the New Deal Distillery in Portland Oregon that were a cocktail after my own heart. They think outside the box and want to do something unique. This distillery is a craft operation and worth the time and effort to get their spirits!

The G&T sorbet is outstanding. I love Hedricks gin, and think that will be the bomb.
I am with pam – the G&T sorbetto is for me!
