My friend Mary Hall is the founder/blogger of the The Recessionista Blog. She asked a number of us bloggers to join her at this new spa for an event. It sounded divine but I was sort of vague on it. I hadn’t been to a spa in a while. I had been wrapped up in real estate– showing the house, staging and working too. 2014 has been incredibly busy for me. But I was glad to go because it got me out of the house for some me-time and much appreciated pampering!

When I showed up to this lovely spot, it was very different than what I had been anticipating. What I thought I was visiting was a very clinical sort of spa and instead found something lovely and exceptionally relaxing and almost cozy.
I was escorted to the meeting room to see Mary and the other guests. We were a very small but well curated group of women … all with a real love for all things beauty.
We were offered a great array of snacks, beverages and a chance to check out the Hylunia Wellness MD Spa skincare collection! It was a really welcomed opportunity to check out this line. What I discovered was that the collection was exceptionally comprehensive. The brand takes skincare seriously and offers lots of great products for every skin type. The entire collection is a happy marriage between natural & holistic ingredients and cosmeceutical ingredients. They have some very interesting products with ingredient lists that would make almost any skincare junkie smile. In other words, the line walks the walk as well as talks the talk. I have fallen in love with several products!

The actual event was so cool, so great, so well-paced that I was blissed out for a full 24 hours. Very few people have seen me that relaxed and moving in “slo-mo”… and even my family asked if I was ok. I was better than OK.

One of the most unique “treatments” was the decompression/relaxation phase in the sanctuary. You go into a dimly lit room full of these ergonomic lounge chairs. Music is playing softly and lights and images are fading in and fading out. You are handed a pair of goggles and headphones. The “event” is a virtual trip to Bali unlike anything I experienced. The virtual trip doesn’t include planes but you are flying to Bali with pit-stops in Hawaii along the way. Love this! After going through this twice, I was so relaxed I didn’t care if I had a treatment. When I was scooped up by the person doing my facial, I could have walked on hot coals and not felt it (much).
My facial was the same as Mary’s and I loved it. The highly trained staff is very good at keeping the noise level to a minimum and the talking is equally hushed and minimal. My treatment included a neck and back massage with essential oils which turned me into goo. The facial itself included a number of cleansings, exfoliations and hydrating steps. It felt like forever but it was just over 60 minutes. I must say that I was very impressed and still am. I can still see those soft colored lights in the rooms. For once as I changed in the spa dressing room, I looked at myself in the mirror and saw a slightly pink face that wasn’t blotchy or looking rather peaked. Instead the lines were eased, my eyes weren’t puffy and I looked and felt like I had a vacation. Must have been that trip to Bali! — or the essential oils that all the treatments of the facial had.
I always think about going to get a facial but don’t do it because it’s a time suck for me to go and I wonder will I “leave my day behind”. At Hylunia Wellness MD Spa, I can be sure that I will.
