It’s the time when you start thinking about what you want to wear for New Year’s Eve (*and even New Year’s Day) along with the makeup to support “the look”. The most important thing to the NYE look is actually your hair. The dress can be fabulous, the makeup amazing but if your hair is “meh”, your evening is blown. So no matter whether you are wearing a gown and stilettos or relaxed boyfriend jeans and a pretty tee, you will be noticed if your hair looks fabulous!

Now determining the look is pretty key. I am not suggesting you need to go to a stylist today or tomorrow. It’s too late for that unless you have the $$$ and/or your best friend is a hair stylist. However it’s not like me to tell you something and leave you hanging. Celebrity hairstylist Dennis Stokely has provided a guest post with tips on how to achieve the most requested celebrity hairstyle of 2014. Big sexy hair with modern, loose curls, lots of volume in the crown and a center-part a la Bridget Bardot.

Mandy Starling

The key to creating this look at home is using the proper products and tools. I created this look
for tv personality, Mandy Starling, using several of my favorite “Bumble and bumble” styling and finishing
products.

I started by shampooing Mandy’s hair with “B&b thickening shampoo” and then using ” B&b thickening conditioner.”

I towel dried the hair and applied a generous amount of “Bb thickening full form mousse” and let her hair air-dry for the afternoon. (Tip: At home, shower in the morning and the hair will be dry and ready to style in the afternoon).

I set the top of her hair with 4 large (2 inch) velcro-rollers, blow-drying each section with a “Marilyn” round brush to smooth the texture. The key to this look are the CURLS!

I used a 1.75 inch curling iron from “i-tech” (some people prefer to use a wand or flat-iron to create the curls) and took random sized sections of her hair and wrapped the hair around the iron with the hair directed away from the face. It is important the the ends of the hair remain straight and not curled. Leaving the tips of the hair straight give the curls a more modern, rock & roll vibe that celebs crave. After all the hair is curled, remove the velcro rollers on top and let the straight smooth top sections of hair fall over the curls. You might want to put a little back-combing at the roots of the hair in the crown area for more volume. I finished the look by pushing all the hair forward and apply “B&b thickening dryspun finish.”

Lastly, push all the hair back, slightly mess it up to give it a tousled look and finish the look by applying a generous coat of “B&b does-it-all styling spray.”

Let the hair sit for ten minutes without running your hands through it so the products will lock-in the set. As the night goes on, this hairstyle takes on a sexier and sexier look– lasting to even the next day! You will LOVE the bed-head fullness of this 2014 go-to hairstyle of countless stars, including your favorites like JLo, Carmen Electra, Beyonce’, and Fergie among the celebrities who have worn this look!
