It seems to me as a dog-lover and a serial dog-owner, that dogs are more than just pets but members of my family. Because we spend increasing amounts of time (and $$$) on our pets for good food, accessories (leashes, collars, bedding and even clothing-type items), grooming (DIY or appointments) along with one-on-one time it seems that more and more dog-lovers want to take their pooches out with them as they run errands, shop and meet up with friends. More interesting is dining out with dogs is becoming more inclusive for dog-owners who wish to take their dogs with them out for a snack or a meal! However doing it can sometimes be tricky.

Excellent Dining Spots To Enjoy With Your Dog In LA
The City of Angels is home to over a million dogs according to some online estimates from the Los Angeles Almanac. With this many canines in our sun-soaked city, it’s only natural there would be plenty of venues for them to enjoy the great outdoors with their masters. Along with dozens of different dog parks to choose from, there’s also an amazing number of restaurants that welcome our four-legged friends.
Getting around the health code rules, restaurants can simply choose to allow pets in their outdoor eating areas. Similar to dog parks, it’s a good idea to make sure your dog is licensed and properly vaccinated for their safety as the welfare of others, it’s rarely enforced and usually the only requirement is that they’re leashed at all times.
Without any further doggie adieu, here are six spots in the LA area that are not only great restaurants, they also offer outdoor areas for us to enjoy a bite to eat with our pets:
#1 – THE MORRISON – 3179 Los Feliz Blvd (near Griffith Park & Observatory)
Our number one slot not only gives their human patrons great burgers and other bar food, they also have a separate menu just for a dog’s palate. Choose from their canine dishes that are all served with rice, like Frankenweenie, Cock-A-Doodle-Doo and Where’s The Beef. If you want to get your drink on, they have an extensive selection of beer to choose from along with a full bar.
#2 – GRUB – 911 Seward Street (off Santa Monica Blvd – Hollywood)
There’s nothing grubby about this quirky dining spot that feels like home to it’s patrons and staff with a trendy 1920’s vibe. Offering their unique twist on California comfort foods, they’re also well-known for the weekend brunch fare available from 9:00 to 3:00 on Saturday and Sunday. With over 500 five-star reviews on Yelp, Grub was also voted “Best of Citysearch” two years in a row including best brunch and breakfast.
#3 – HOME RESTAURANT – 1760 Hillhurst Avenue (Los Feliz)
For both Dorothy and the staff at this restaurant, “There’s no place like home,” and their menu shares this popular sentiment. With family favorites like four different types of Eggs Benedict for breakfast and for lunch, choose from at a wide assortment of salads, wraps, burgers, homemade soups, hot and cold sandwiches. Some of their dinner entrees, like bacon mac-and-cheese are served all day long.
#4 – THE WAFFLE – 6255 Sunset Blvd (Hollywood)
Although you’d likely expect nothing but breakfast served at this Hollywood hotspot, they also offer a great lunch menu of sandwiches, burgers, chili, salads and mac-and-cheese favorites. They’re the self-proclaimed location of “The Double Wides,” three different menu selections that offer their famous pancakes paired with other choices including chicken, bacon, eggs and ham. For vegetarians, they have plenty of meat-free dishes to choose from.
#5 – SPITZ – 371 E Second Street (Los Feliz)
For a more Mediterranean feel featuring cuisine from Turkey, check out the home of the döner kabobs or a “spit” of rotating meat that this region is famous for producing. Instead of pursuing a legal career, college buddies Bryce Rademan and Robert Wicklund brought their love of this fine food from the streets of Europe to the sidewalks of Los Angeles.
#6 – THE ANCHOR – 235 Main Street (Venice)
Our last selection comes in just south of the city, but we wouldn’t want you to miss out on some of the freshest seafood to be found in the Los Angeles straight from Venice Beach. This laid-back, beach-front restaurant is famous for their lobster rolls, unique beer and wine fare, which is updated regularly. Although they’re closed on Monday, throughout the week you’ll find unique specials like “Tanked Tuesdays,” where you’ll enjoy ½ priced wine from 3:00 pm until they close the doors at 11:00 pm.
The next time you’re looking to go out for a great meal and enjoy an outdoor dining experience, don’t leave your best friend behind, bring them along for your next culinary adventure in Los Angeles. “Bone-Appetit!”
