Do you take vitamins on a regular basis? Or do you start and then forget them for a day or two (or seven) and decide to give up? Here’s a guest post with a huge infographic that talks about various vitamin and mineral supplements and how to best take them. This information is courtesy of MedAlertHelp.org, and more specifically this piece was written by Dr. Nikola Djordjevic, is the expert behind this post and graphic. The infographic was put together by MedAlertHelp.org.
This graphic is very long but very informative. Worth bookmarking the site to find the exact information easily the next time you think about vitamins and supplements. !
Do Vitamin Supplements Really Help Our Bodies?
The habit of consuming random multivitamins is ingrained in our lives so much so that around 30% of millennial women take them.
Here’s an obvious question: is consuming multivitamins seriously worth the hype? Are there any benefits associated with them?
That’s when I decided to do a bit of research on the web, and as it turns out – although a few multivitamins do make us healthier, there are various other ones which are nothing but a waste of money and can even prove to be dangerous in certain instances.
What’s more, more often than not, the FDA puts no restriction on their dosage and doesn’t even evaluate the safety of ingredients before they are rolled out on the market. No matter how crazy this sounds, what I am trying to convey here is that drowning in multivitamins is generally not a good idea.
When Is It Okay to Consume Vitamin Supplements?
Here are a few vitamins which can be taken as supplements to boost your health:
Vitamin D
Although vitamin D is found naturally in just a few products like egg yolks and fatty fish, it plays a crucial role in easing depression and fighting inflammation. It is also important for maintaining our bone health.
Calcium
If you do not eat dairy products daily, consuming calcium is a good idea to meet your body’s nutritional requirements. Also, the best practice is to consume calcium with vitamin D for better absorption.
B12
If you are a vegan, the chances are high that you might not get your daily dose of B12 from a plant-only diet. This is why taking B12 supplements makes sense for vegans.
Which Ones Should You Skip?
Standard Multivitamins
As it turns out, multivitamins are not as beneficial as you might think. There is no evidence which points to the conclusion that multivitamins can help you fight chronic diseases or boost your immunity. Therefore, as long as you are consuming a balanced diet, there should be no need for taking a supplement.
High-Dose Antioxidants
Excessive intake of vitamin E and beta-carotene can do more harm than good, and could even lead to serious health conditions like cancer and heart problems.
So, next time you take a vitamin pill, think twice and consult your doctor beforehand. To find out more about vitamins and their uses, check out the infographic given below. We found it on Medalerthelp.org, a site that primarily reviews medical alert systems. But the infographic they designed caught our attention because it’s highly informative yet simple to understand.
