Curiouser + Curiouser: Testing the New #Sobercurious Cocktails from Curious Elixirs!

This post is a contribution from Jessa Moore. She’s a multi-faceted person who has done so much and has an amazing range of talents: Media Consultant, PR, Marketing, Emerging Media, Community Builder, Digital Strategist, and Niche Marketer. She and I have cross-consulted on different projects along with sharing information and insights depending on who had a project going on.

Jessa has been dealing with “Quarantine Overload”… having been sheltering in place for several months. Recently, we spent some time talking about the current status in the NYC/NJ area versus the greater Los Angeles situation. We started talking about what we liked to drink: coffees, teas, wine, and cocktails. That’s when the conversation gets interesting! We wound up talking about new cocktails we had been running into. On my end, I had Cutwater Spirits, Shots Box, Costa Brava along with many other newly launched cocktail-ready canned spirits.

Jessa mentioned CURIOUS ELIXIR cocktails that happen to be alcohol-free but have the feel and texture of a thoughtfully prepared cocktail- just without the buzz! Since Jessa had all the buzz on this, I asked her if she could share some insights about this very interesting non-alcoholic line of sips with you and me!

Jessa Moore Talks about How the Pandemic Lead to Her Discovery of  Curious Elixirs

Like everyone else in NY, I have been holed up, mainly alone, in my apartment since March. I haven’t had a lot of freedom to do much except the occasional YouTube Barre 3 class, brush up on my housekeeping skills, or focus on #selfcare. It’s brutal- not more brutal than for anyone else, but…brutal. (I have become extremely close friends with my deli guy.)

NY is a social town. It’s the kind of place where you pay 5 grand for an apartment with no kitchen or share a place with 6 other people. Most New Yorkers spend more time out of their apartments than in. Restaurants are my jam. I live to try the newest (insert literally anything new here) coffee, cronut, cheese, whatever! I know my favorite bar’s bouncer’s dog’s name. I take meetings at the Ace. It’s social- both for work and play. I never actually realized until NY was hit hard by Coronavirus exactly HOW little I was inside… And how much I am now.

The funniest part of me being a former Queen of the Nightlife is that as a drinker- I am a lightweight at best. I actually drink ten cups of coffee a day, but max out at 2 drinks. I am actually not a beer drinker; give me a wine bar or a craft cocktail any day. One is enough. I just don’t like being drunk.

So…the other day, I received a package from Curious Elixirs which I had never tried. I had heard of the #sobercurious movement, and of similar non-alcoholic drinks, but had never tried one. Right now, people are extremely focused on mental and emotional well being, as well as physical. The awareness of what we put in our bodies is very much a conversation, but we also are in a very experimental phase- you can hear people talking about Amazonian Ayahuasca with fervor, and people are not afraid to try herbal remedies for various issues like anxiety or exhaustion.

Curious Elixirs are essentially herb-infused non-alcoholic cocktails. But, man, are they good. I don’t drink a lot, but I love a carefully crafted cocktail. I never felt comfortable with just a club soda, and these are low-key brilliant. I have had a yearning for my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn that is so strong, I almost teared up at my first sip.

The flavor of Elixir #2 is a spicy pineapple take on a Margarita- it was so delicious, it felt like a night on the town. It was actually very sophisticated- and I can see that Curious Elixirs could easily become a nightcap ritual. I tried all four flavors and all were very good, but my favorite was Elixir #2.

You can order a mixed subscription to try all 4. But these are as transportive as any alcoholic cocktail I have had and the ingredients are as quality as you get.

Curious No. 1 is a bitter pomegranate cocktail inspired by the Negroni, but designed to lift you up with rhodiola*.

–Infused with damiana, Curious No. 2 is the spicy lovechild of the pineapple margarita and a Dark & Stormy.

Curious No. 3 is a beautiful blend of lemon, cucumber, alpine herbs and ashwagandha**.

Curious No. 4 is our version of a classic Italian Spritz, but with blood orange, green mandarin, turmeric, and American ginseng to give you a boost, and holy basil (tulsi) to help you de-stress.

The herbs should be looked at-just in case you have a sensitivity or are pregnant, but I would consider putting this mocktail club into heavy rotation.

Thanks to Jessa Moore for this great review of Curious Elixirs (along with an update on what it has been like to be in NY during a pandemic quarantine).  These cocktails sound absolutely delicious!
